When will Pattaya gets its first pedestrian tunnel?

example most of car traffic jams near walkingstreet entrance are caused by tourists crossing and walking standing in big crowds on the roads on their way to the song teaws and or their tourbus etc.Solution dig 2 small pedestrian tunnels connecting Several sides underground  with eachother right infront WS entrance. If no one would cross the road u get a much better flow and much less chaos.

There were all sorts of Rat bags claiming the new Sukhumvit Rd tunnel would flood, which of course is not going to happen, but tunnels along Beach Rd would 100% fill with water, the road does every time there is a storm.

I dont think that tourists cause the jams there. It's the double-parked Bahtbuses and taxis on the corner that cause the jams. The proof is that when they put a policeman there to move vehicles on then within seconds there is no jam at all: it happened a couple of months ago after a "crackdown". Trouble is they only do it once in a blue moon and it only lasts a week or so.

Solution: put a policeman there permanently and ensure that he issues big tickets (ie 2,000B instant fine) to any vehicle driver that even thinks about stopping there. Put the policeman on commission perhaps. Have tow-trucks standing by and use them, with fines of 10,000B to get the vehicle released. The jams will disappear instantly.

Thailand suffers from a complete lack of rule enforcement, not from a lack of rules.

The entrance area needs a total re-do--it's an unsightly mess now with no pedestrian control--but I don't think a tunnel is a solution.

City Hall could buy the building on the corner and demolish it. That would go a long way to alleviating the chaos at that corner as it would allow for a much larger footpath (sidewalk) to be constructed on the opposite two sides and would make the turning circle much easier for large vehicles. Currently there is barely any footpath at all. I suspect that it would be a bit expensive though.

Well its a combination of course but pedestrians crowds are walking back forward non stop and that is clearly contributing to the chaos and yes why are these Song teaws parked again claiming the public road as their office?

Great idea.   Considering it's a major tourist attraction it's hard to believe how lousy the entrance is--even the letters on the sign are crooked.  Major work needed.

To make a simple pedestrian tunnel waterproof is an easy job.

By allowing vehicles to exit Beach road BEFORE the corner to second road would help. The one way streets prevent that now, forcing all traffic to go around the corner, and not many want to go through Boyztown to get out of there.  Still, the best solution is to have police issue fines to keep the double parked vehicles from jamming up the road. Pedestrians are not the issue, as you can usually walk faster than the traffic going through there anyway.

Pedestrian tunnels in Pattaya = lady boy muggers paradise.

my first image was of a tunnel with foot path filled with working folks and maybe a food stahl.

floods, rats, expenses, and a HUGE deficiency in construction expertise is why there is no tunnel in Pattaya or many places in Thailand whrere there might be. Thailand has not yet figured out plumbing. Go into any hotel and smell the lovely bathrooms draining almost anywhere. The most spectacular example is the Okura Hotel which was supposed to be the firs GREEN hotel (whatever that means) and the bathrooms still stink out the restaurants and lobby which is beautiful and on 12th floor. Dont over reach it. lets start small. sh*t runs downhill.

LOL. You are considering the possibility that those involved in town planning ( that is an oxymoron ) in Pattaya understand such a concept, the interest in making it happen, and the concern to consider such a possibility in the first place.

Not at all. Just being realistic.

Underpasses are not a Thai thing. Overpasses are OK as in the open. Anything closed like a tunnel will attract the muggers.

Usually tunnels have a observation camera and sufficient lights even in the 8 meter tunnels.look if u so scared getting robbed just stay in u room forever and lock u door geezer.

Well the 150 meter vehicle tunnel on sukumvit begins to look solid so then a 8-10 meters pedestrians only  tunnel cant be more complicated right?
