Normally I use Gel but a can of it is now over 300 baht. I also use Mac 3 blades but 2 of these today cost me over 300 baht. With the baht becoming stronger all the time, these imported goods should be getting cheaper. Has anybody discovered a cheaper source of generic equipment ??

Thanks

Occasionally you can find generic type Boot's brand gel and quite cheap. They used to stock it often but now it's very rare to find at least in Pattaya. Perhaps discontinued. When I see it, I stock up.

Sometimes get deals on Mach 3 blades in the ladies beauty shop on Pattaya Klang across the road from Big C Extra. I normally buy them in bulk from there if they are on offer and they last me a couple of years. I find a single Mach 3 blade lasts me a month easily.

Shaving Gel I use the stuff from Boots, last ages only need a small amount - Botanics range

I just buy enough abroad to last me a year. Can of shaving foam: USD1. Pack of 8 3-blade razors: USD4.

The shaving foam I use is Barbasol.... usually available in Villa. Great stuff and very economical as it is so thick and creamy you don't use very much. About 150thb for a pint can. I normally buy 3 cams at a time and they last me a good 5 months.  As for razors I buy them in 7-11, its a 2 blade disposable with a grey handle. 2 in a pack.

Oh,  come on

Yer----I may be wrong in not costing a cent.....you probably buy that for her, someone told me about it years ago in Malaysia, was staying in a hotel at the time that give you all those little bottles of soap/shampoo---etc so tried it, got to keep the water running as it gunks up your razor but what a close shave--really try it, better than any shaving cream you can buy..............:coffee1:

Gel or foam, 3 blade or 5 blade......it would depend if you are wanting to shave your hair or your pubes, bumhole, head, armpits, legs or all of the above. The OP didn't clarify what he's trying to shave. You certainly wouldn't want to use the same razors or products shaving all those areas. :shock1:

Since alternatives have been mentioned, suggest you get a double edge safety razor; Lazada has a selection here: http://www.lazada.co.th/catalog/?q=double edge safety razor

and get a box of blades from a beauty supply house (one across from Big C Extra or on Pattaya Tai not far from the market, same side), 100 blades for about B200, Astra recommended; and then start shaving like a Real Man®, like dad or grandad. Add a brush and proper soap so that shaving becomes a pleasant daily ritual more than just a chore.

Lazada also has shaving soap. You may read a discussion of goop/foam vs soap here: http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/shaving-cream-vs-foam.13520/

I just get the cheap buy 5 get 6 Blue blades from Tesco, they last me about 10 days each (shaving every other day).

Get the Gillette foam from Tesco also when I'm up there.

Sorrry, not for me.  My uncle used an old brass double edged safety razor long after the modern razors became available.  It is now a treasured and unused heirloom.  He always looked like he had been a a sword fight with the samurais in the morning.  Face covered in toilet paper bandages.  I will just be a pussy and use my 4 edged Gillette.

IMHO, far and away the best shave from a disposable blade available in Thailand is delivered by the Boots branded product.

Provides a closer shave for at least 2 weeks of daily use whilst, for me, the Mach 3 starts to cause rash after approx.5 uses. It's also cheaper and the handle is a heavier unit which provides nice balance - all round, a better experience. And it's cheaper than the Mach 3... ;)

Their imported shaving gel at THB 105 for a large can is also good value that performs well.

The Gillette products have declined in performance over the past few years whilst their on-pack claims have become more exaggerated so I now refuse to buy them.

The problem arises from most currency worldwide losing value; therefore, products become more expensive.

Some refer to it has inflation/hyperinflation, but the proximate cause is the currency is devaluating as it is not backed by anything. Some countries are avoiding other countries’ currencies.

Some countries are even in currency price wars now to increase trade.

Buy all imports now that you enjoy, as the retail prices here will accelerate in time combined with your home currency retreating over time.  A time will come when most imports will no longer be available here, because of the above and retailers here will stop importing foreign products.  Some foreign products are already not being ordered.

I remember 60 years ago when I could buy a hamburger and a coke for 35 cents in the U.S.  Used cars a few years old back in the day were selling on average for $500. Look at the prices now, yet people argue the dollar is getting stronger. LOL

Lazada has a lot of shaving gear, soaps, brushes blades etc. Some original, some Chinese copies. A badger hair brush, a bowl of soap and copies of a 5 bladed design - all my shaving needs met.

That's exactly right, thanks for pointing it out!  For body hair, the 2-blade disposables are far better and of course much cheaper. For shaving my head, I use the top-of-the line Gillette Fusion Pro Glide POWER (with electric vibrations) with 5 extremely fine blades. Expensive, but what a shave! And the blades last forever if cleaned really well after every shave. Instead of shaving cream/gel,  with all their harmful chemicals, I use 100% pure natural Aloe Vera gel, much better for the skin.

Seems that only both of us have considered using different razor blades & products to shave our face from another body part eg. pubes/bumhole (not that I shave it lol). Everyone else seems to use the same razor blades & products wherever they shave...:shock1::shock1::shock1:

Been using this a few years.  It's travel friendly, costs $1, gives a rich lather and lasts for 6 months or more.  Hard to beat.

I've always used shaving soap and a brush. Hard to get shaving soap here and my brush is going bald. I now use ordinary soap and buy the Gillette throw away razors.

If you can find a daily shower spray it will keep your blades sharp for months also.  Just keep your razor in small cup of the stuff and rinse well before using.  There are recipes to make your own shower spray online if you don't want to buy it.

You might at least consider a soap thats not so harsh on your face.  This is a very popular brand and is available online in Thailand.  You will feel the difference the first use.

Great tip.

I'm going to give that a try because I too use a 5-blade razor with lubricating strip and they aren't cheap.

Gillette Fusion Proglide Blade 4pcs packs are 755 baht each at Tesco-Lotus.

I'm a fan of Palmolive shaving cream in a toothpaste type tube, makes great lather with a brush, not seen it on sale here. Aso I've noticed that Nivea aftershave balm is no longer imported, and aftershave lotions are hard to get unless at the airport.

I suppose with the baby skin of most Thai men, not much demand except from old farangs like me.

Hair conditioner makes a great substitute for shaving cream or gel... I prefer it actually.

Give it a try... you might be pleasantly surprised.

Hi, thought I  would join in. About 3 months ago I bought a Razor pit from Bangkok beards and blades and I have had 73 shaves out of 1 razor and it is still going strong. They say you can get 100+ shaves. Every day that I shave, I mark it down on my calendar so see how many shaves I get. On a Gillette blade, I use to get about 5 shaves max 7. So you can see how much I have saved or razor blades. So far 73 divided by say average 6 shaves on a Gillette equals 12 blades so that means I have saved 11 blades. Not a bad sum $88 plus dollars on blades. Here is the website:

https://www.bangkokbeardsandblades.com/razorpit

Also for some who are looking for a high-end razor made and imported from Muller in Germany they are the Thai distributors.

Lastly, for those who shave their head, try his head blade which can also be used to shave your face.

Agree, I use standard shampoo for hair and all of body and face. And conditioner for hair. (Professional hairdresser told me years back most people use a lot more shampoo and conditioner than needed. His suggestion was that a thin coating of shampoo to cover a ten Baht coin (but do it twice), and about half of that enough for conditioner.

Then a thin coating of conditioner as a shave cream, works great, leaves the skin moisturized, easy to wash off any excess, very little cost.

In terms of shavers, when I visit KL or S'pore I stock up, always cheaper in these two countries and especially cheaper in KL.
