A Myanmar migrant worker was yesterday arrested by police and park officials after he was caught selling slaughtered deer meat to neighbours in Thong Phaphum district of Kanchanaburi province.

Identified only as Lek, he was caught with a homemade gun and the slaughtered deer.

He was selling slaughtered meat at 150-280 baht per kilogrammes behind his home when authorities were alerted and bridge to arrest him.

Not a good day. Perhaps they should be concerned about the homemade gun too.

They did charge him for having the gun.

Why would people buy deer for twice the going rate for pork?

The price may be why someone dropped a dime on him....pissed because they thought he was ripping them off.

Used to live near the Myanmar Border. A bit of a "volatile" area. Instead of dying, some people just "dissappear". Over the years, 2 Farangs have "dissappeared".

Official version: "Had enough of Rural-Thailand and bitching Thai-Wife"- so went back to Farangland. But now, I am not so sure......
Cheers.

I though all of the edible wildlife has already been shot and eaten.

Almost.

We live near a national park area where there is still some dear around.

Due to the draconic punishment, poaching has become rare but it still exists.

For those making 200 or 300 Baht a day (migrant workers even less) a few thousand Baht for a small dear is too tempting.

Do you really compare venison to fattened pig?

And only the wealthier can afford to buy.

I always had mixed feelings when my wife was offered and bought.

Must be a year since last happened.

Homemade guns (muzzle loaders) are also still widespread.

Not too much excitement.

Though the times seem over when many went out after dark with headlamps and muzzle loader to shoot some fat rats

Deer  farming  is  not  a   common  occupation . Maybe  because  to  start one would  involve set  up  breeding  from  poached  deer. Catch 22. Shame. Venison  is   great  protein !

It's long ago that I read about some deer farming.

But really rare.

How do they hold the shovel?

Been a while, but I remember venison as gamey
