BANGKOK — A military-themed romantic soap opera premiered Saturday, inaugurating three months of the television show, which a mass media expert said is an attempt by the military government to rebrand itself and regain public popularity.

“Love Missions” is a soap opera series that follows four protagonists who work in different branches of the armed forces: the army, the navy, the police and the air force. The show, which was filmed with props provided by the respective branches of the military, was criticized by mass media expert Pasavit Boonkongchuen from Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Arts, who viewed the series as an effort by the military junta to “rebrand” itself.

What a pathetic attempt to gain popularity!

On the other hand, it does seem to signify that the military people have the self-image and brains of a soap star, which might explain why they are so bad at governing.

How much lower can things get?

"Royal Thai Army Capt. Purich Sattakamonpan, played by Sukollwat “Wier” Kanarot, and Napaschol, played by Pattarasaya “Peak” Kreuasuwansiri, a mobile clinic doctor. The couple are deployed to “the borders” to take down drug trafficking rings and “anti-capitalist international terrorist” organization Black Iron, composed of foreign and half-Thai characters named Jason, Martin and Victor"

Ah, nothing like a healthy dose of xenophobia and prejudice to boost national morale.

Dare we even hope it will bring about happiness and reconciliation.

Go get those pesky foreigners.

What kind of foreigner would demean his or herself to be part of this? Isn't it bad enough to see them on occasion making prize tits of themselves on the whiz boing 'light entertainment' programmes?

Bet you it's not set near the Laos border

"In December 1987, however, Thai armed forces occupied the disputed village of Ban Romklao, raising the Thai flag over it. The government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic protested strongly, insisting the village was part of Botene District of Sainyabuli Province. Thailand replied that the village belonged to Chat Trakan District (amphoe) of Phitsanulok Province. Laotian Army forces staged a night attack on the small Thai garrison, driving the Thai soldiers from the village and replacing the Thai flag with that of the Lao PDR."

Ah yes, it was on the box the other night.
I presume that the " Black Iron" were the chaps mincing around in surplus German Army parade uniforms and a remarkable collection of voluminous berets. They seemed to spend a lot of time throwing hand grenades into rivers, presumably after a fish supper?

The character playing Prime Minister looked vaguely familiar...

Recent polls show 76.5% of the population watched and approved.

Can we expect a cameo from the peoples poet.

He already wrote, produced, directed, edited and acted every part single-handedly...what more do you want?

Seriously?  This junta is looking really, really weird.

many foreigners are desperate to stay in thailand. i saw many when i was living there. many who managed to stay there long enough even became sour about how they are treated or about what thailand is like. most continued to stay there. thailand has an almost magical power to hold western men. having said that i will be happy to move back when my kids are finished school here.

Well... propaganda can't get much more blatant than this can it? about as subtle as the proverbial sledgehammer.....

Think many US war films &  dramas series  set out to achieve same result, just a different era..

No doubt someone in US will do series on drama between Thumper Trump & Korea Kid!!

It seems that the army is indeed worried about its image, given its lack of achievements since 2014.  Unless the show is brilliantly scripted, if even 5% of the population liked it, the country's future is even more questionable.

I quite agree, Hollywood has been producing blatant propaganda for years....

Is it any less educational than "Yes Minister" and "Yes Prime Minister", which are an exact portrayal of the British system of government, for the masses?

^^^   Much less educational, as well as far less humorous I should imagine...

And for the BBC to report the levels of cronyism, nepotism  & the old boy network in British government would require them to be truly independent rather than just as full of it as the government are themselves.....

what morons got this idea? The poster shows soldiers of course with guns, probably killing or at least threatening opponents.....

There will be never peace in this society with a soldier's govt. I have my doubts Thais will ever learn their lessons from history...

I doubt it. As long as there are no katoeys, knife wielding midgets, pixelled whisky bottles, friendly rape scenes with boing, pop, and whistle blowing in the background the common folks won't like it.

Don't worry the Thai Army's next armed conflict is scheduled as a musical.

The 'brain washing' continues! How childish and pathetic can they be? :whistling:
