Is there a 'Pay As You Go' sim card available in Thailand that does NOT get deactivated if not topped up within an allotted time frame?

They used to turn off sim cards in the UK till it was made illegal by the government.

I hardly ever use a mobile phone but once every now and then I find the use for one, but the providers seem to keep deactivating my sim for not using it or adding credit every month, it is a pain in the @rse.

Thanks in advance.

Most here give you a time limit on your top up gets longer the more you top up for instance mine is now valid till june 2018 (credit that is).

Easy solution put 20bht on via a atm type machine which are situated everywhere every month or so and use the phone once every couple of months.

What you need to do is to purchase a normal Happy DTAC prepaid SIM and top up with at least 200 baht. Then utilise Jai Dee Day Giveaway here: https://www.dtac.co.th/en/prepaid/services/jai-dee.html 2 baht for 30 days of validity. So 24 baht to extend for a year.

If you don't return within a year, as long as you have Roaming enabled, you can continue to extend via USSD or https://my.dtac.co.th/esv/en/login?ref=dashboard

At AIS you can top up 10 Baht for a fee of 2 Baht at the orange colored vending machines.

You can repeat that for a validity of up to one year.

(yes really up to 12 single top ups)

So 24 Baht fee and 120 Baht additional top up.

At the AIS vending machines there is no fee but a minimum top up of 20 Baht.

Also for up to one year (240 Baht top up).

Everyone who is in Thailand can do that with just knowing the number.

No need to have the phone/SIM powered up.

So if you have a contact here who is willing to help out you have no need to do it from abroad.

Thanks for the advice guys.... No, I am not too lazy to top up, I literally hate mobile phones, (it's a long story that stems from running a business from one in the UK and it seriously took up 80% of my life).

So I am not really into them anymore and vowed not to carry one about ever again, and boy my life has improved a lot since not having one.

But anyway, that aside. My wife is away most of the day on business, and the odd time our internet goes down, and it would be good for me to contact the missus when it happens, today it went down just after she left, I was without internet for like 6 hours till she returned.

This is like the ONLY time I would ever need a mobile phone, and this happens about once every 2 to 3 months, which is why I need a mobile for basically ONLY emergency use, it would also be handy if I had a medical emergency which I hope is NEVER :)

Once again, thanks for your help guys.

I have been using AIS One 2 Call for about five years, can 'top up' on-line, as long as I keep over 800 baht on it, I have unlimited in-country calls, topped up yesterday, don't expire until Oct 2018,  I typically spend six months a year out of country, has never expired as long as I keep the minimum balance.

Are you sure it is illegal to turn them off in the UK.

I have diligently been ensuring a billable charge hits my UK SIM (Pay as You Go) every six months to stop them deactivating it. I read this was the case in the T&Cs  as they would want to reclaim inactive numbers. Is this relatively new?

Sorry but what is this referring to - turn what off?

Any prepaid DTAC SIM will do.  As previously stated, phone the callcentre to extend the life of your SIM for 2 baht p/m [max twelve months] and they'll lop the charge off your balance. I always extend my wife's DTAC SIM for a year when in LOS.

I'm keeping hold of my 2009 DTAC SIM that automatically extends for twelve months at each top up.

Some only go up to a 90 day max,. Though you may be able to change the basic package.

So you are saying that you can extend the 90 day Tourist SIMs to 365 days? Hmmmm..... I'm not so sure.

Perhaps you mean that you can continue to extend them to a max of 90 days.

I'll check my TRUE Tourist SIM to see if it goes beyond 90 days.

 Whats the matter with you.....??

True recently enabled the tourist sims to be advanced more than 90 days by using a short code already given to you at 2 baht for 30 days.....just to check it worked whilst I was around 75 days still valid I did it twice and it extended a further 60 days as its meant to now ok......go and hmmmmm somewhere else. I'll have my apology in whisky tokens if you dont mind

Edited its currently valid to 29th November

I think that you have already used up all of your whisky tokens, by the looks of your behaviour.

You really need to attend to that chip on your shoulder.

There was nothing in my post that suggested that you were lying.

Does "Hmmmmm" in your world mean "You are lying" or does it mean "I am thinking"?

It wasn't initially clear if you meant the code worked on the Tourist SIM or that it worked on the Tourist SIM and also allowed you to extend beyond 90 days. So I asked for clarification. Normal behaviour if someone is not sure of of someone's meaning.

Whereas your reaction...

So perhaps it is you who owes me an apology, for your behaviour of jumping to an erroneous conclusion and then flying off the handle.

Anyway I don't have Roaming switched on, so can't test for myself.
