Locals hire a backhoe to dredge "magical logs" as lottery fever grips village in Isaan

Superstitious locals in a Thai north eastern village hired a backhoe to dredge a klong after many people had lottery wins.

Convinced that they were next the locals clubbed together to hire the heavy machinery to haul 20 "takhian" tree logs from a section of the Sak Long canal that leads into the Pa Sak river in Lomsak.

Tables were set up and mediums employed to get the numbers for Friday's latest draw of the national lottery.

The spirit of the logs was promised pink traditional costumes if she came up trumps with the winning numbers.

It was deemed that the following would make everyone rich: 404, 043, 044,048, 098, 358, 04 and 09.

There followed a mad dash into town to buy up all the relevant tickets.

Back in April dredging work dragged up two takhian logs and many people in the village of Lan Ba got rich, reported Sanook whose reporters hotfooted it to the area to see the lottery fever in full flow.

Thaivisa notes that the takhian log is sacred and inhabited by a magical spirit of a woman that, once appeased and promised earthly goods, will bestow her endless bounty on the faithful.

That is the theory, anyway......so let's get rich!

Great news.......................... for the money lenders in Lomsak !

Is this some kind of attempt to cover up illegal logging?

I wonder if the "medium" calling the "lucky numbers" on this idiocy will be lynched when the numbers don't come up.:cheesy:

I never knew about this tree and Wiki had some interesting tibits. In part it read ...it is said to be dangerous for a person to cut such a tree without the previous consent of the spirit inhabiting it.

For me, this has always been my stumbling block. But once I get it figured out, I am going for the Lottery.

Those that wrote this article need to bone up on Thailand's geography. Lomsak is not and never has been in Isaan.:post-4641-1156693976: The proof readers need to be replaced.

Lom Sak is a district in the northern part of Phetchabun Province, northern Thailand.Wikipedia

The backhoe owner said he won the jackpot as soon as they hired him !

Hope so, might deter the others from doing it.............that won't deter the Thai's from believing in the devine intervention of these scammers (who charge them for the 'predictions').
