firestar
Killing someone is always wrong but are we surprised it happens when this is what happens when wanting to vote? is that a red shirt guy? The guy with a whistle round his neck (on the right) is wearing a red shirt cap ! so it looks like it's staged NationPhoto are the official photos taken by Nation Multimedia Group Photographers the very yellow leaning paper, why would they want to portray them in a bad light, or publish it if they thought it was staged? I would also like to remind you that (as reported by BP) 46 polling stations have been closed due to besiegements. As for the cap, it's popular in South Thailand, a bit of a short cut to deduct from it he is a red shirt.

Popular Post soi41
Looking at the videos and photos from the todays events scares the shit out of me!! Looking at the behaviour of the Thais (from both) sides is a very strong reminder of, that violence is ever present close to the surface for most Thais! So my fellow posters, despite our differences of opinion here, be careful and stay safe out there!
chooka
Seems more videos are surfacing on Facebook taken from surrounding condos. The Mrs just showed me one of the police telling the reds to go away, not arresting them as they should. Seems one of the reds who says he was part of the attack group has posted on facebook that he hopes all the injured dies. Arrest them for what, turning up at a polling booth to vote?

Tycoon
Thank God some people see the light from the dark here and see the current voting system is rigged. Finally, now Suthep will see the damage he has done to his country in his effort to gain leadership other than the ballot box. Shame on this terrible excuse of a man. I am so sorry oldsailor that you see it like this. This country has been in the grip of the now-on-the-run-from-justice and his family for too long. Before he came to power, we had a decent prime minister in the shape of Chouon Leekpai (spellling?) and since Thaksin has exercised his power, the situation in this country has become more and more divisive. Suthep is not after persnal power. This has been made clear time after time after time. But you, and others here, simply do not hear the message. Intelligent people have been able to see that this was going to come to a sticky end and erhaps these are the opening shots of a civil war, encouraged by the Thaksin regime who wish to hang onto power by any means possible. Suthep has put his head on the block and has stated quite openly that the ony aim is to turf the Thaksin dictatorship out of the Thai scene and return the country to democracy. He has stated quite clearly that once the Shins go, he's out of it. Meanwhile you appear to be supporting a mass murder and human rights abuser in the shape of Thaksin. A man who has no boundaries to the depths he will sink in order to retain power in Thailand. Please see this issue in the light of the past few years and not from an ideological base. That would throw a different light on this subject because even the most reasonable of people would say that Thaksin really has not been a great success for Thailand. Here is a man who (cleverly) stole the concept of 'democracy' and sold it to those who know no different as the way forward. But his concept of democracy and the definition of it taught at the red political propaganda schools in the red villages is as far away from democracy as Saddam, Hun Sen, Pol Pot and the other despots, and it was clever because Thaksin exercises and wishes to exercise total power. Surely, running a country whilst you are a fugitive from justice on the run and living out of the country is not democracy. And his running the country in this way cannot be denied as it has been openly admitted by many of his acolytes.
Popular Post mikemac
Once again we see the true colours of the reds, they are the violent thugs and will kill anyone who op[poses them, even peacefull protesters. This is directly on yingluck and she is now responsible for this death. Comeon all you red lovers, start bragging how great you are now . Please let me remind you once again. It was not Yingluck that started this problem, but his excellency the mouth from the south. So this death has to be directly his responsibility. If he had not started this problem, that man would still be alive and waiting for the next election whilst the Elected government would be getting on with running the country as they were popularly elected by a large majority to do. Please let me remind you oh learned one, that the common denominator in all Thailand's problems in the past few years is the stinking evil Shinawatra family, not Suthep. Popular Post inutil
To the yanks and you have the most experience with this. What happened during the Race and anti Vietnam riots. Bring in the military as a caretaker government set up a reform group of non political people. I am not a yank, but I´m pretty sure that they didn´t bring in the US Army as caretaker government in the 60ies... No but again you are missing the point, If you are a brit let me ask you this. If the British people decided that they did not trust either governemtn both were found to be corrupt and not worthy of being in power. What would the queen do? Never happen???? OK think american revolution. Corrupt politicians, heavy taxes that benefited the wealthy brits, government was not looking out for the people. Or India remember a guy named Ghandi? Whyd did this protest start? Corrupt politician in Dubai Oooh! oooh! me sir! i can tell you! me! me! She'd do nothing until instructed by the houses of parliament (via a vote of no confidence) that a government could no longer be formed by the ruling party. She would then discuss the prospect of a minority party forming a coalition government. Should this not end in success she would then, after consultation with the privy council, dissolve parliament and declare the date for a general election. This vote of no confidence could of course be caused by general popular protest, but more often than not it would be precipitated by a minority wing of the ruling party or a small minority party in a coalition holding the government to account. Fortunately, being british we're all very pragmatic and peaceful and these are the absolute last resort. We'd sooner let a government run itself into the ground and then boot it out at an election. The last one which was LOST by a government in power was 1979 (and gave rise to the Thatcher government and 18 years of opposition for the party that lost it) and it was caused by the erosion of the labour parties lead in parliament over the course of its term. They lost by one vote. Callaghan resigned and an election was called. All very British and correct. What absolutely wouldnt happen though is that the queen would not disband parliament without following the very strict protocols of the (uncodeified) Constitution of the United Kingdom. The reasons for this might date back to a small event called the English Civil War which resulted in the constitutional monarchy we all know and love today (and its powers to dissolve parliament at the behest of the privy council (parliament and the crown in agreement)). And you know what else? At no point would anyone say, even in the wildest darkest years of Thatchers britian, you know what we need? The army running this! So hope that answers your question.

Gather up all the people who find it impossible to live , civilized among others, and ship them over to this newly established country. Then let them all have at it. You seem to have a very short memory my friend. The previous government were democratically elected and remember the red shirt riots in Bangkok that practically closed the capital down for 6 months and the number of dead then? After which we had a rigged election and the sister of a convicted felon (with no previous experience in politics) becomes Prime Minister? You think this is okay? Basically the corrupt Shinawatra dynasty has to go for this country to move forward. If it does not, then you would do well to remember the last time people wore red in southeast Asia. That time 2.5 million lost their lives. Taksin's strings are being pulled by the very same people who pulled Pol Pot's. It's about enslaving all the people here and you really don't get it. Unfortunately the next election will be rigged and so the democratic process does not and will not work now in Thailand. This is why we have the current protests because the people have no faith in the system and rightly so. Thaksin has now bought, or at least moved his cronies into, all senior positions the judiciary, police and army. So let's not knock Suthep. Your boss, the criminal from the south is probably suggesting all your insults word by word. With Thaksin, in 7 years , the Thai GNP grew by about 50%, the corruption index DROPPED to the lowest level ever (you can see Transparency International), the freedom of press according to Reporters without Border and Freedomhouse was the second best ever in history of Thailand after the Leekpai government. Your boss Suthep , long time before Thaksin appeared in politics, had already been convincted for fraud, violation of the Constitution, corruption and later for MURDER. This is why he is one of the most hated people in the whole south, and he was the most hated in the Democratic Party when the party was still democratic. He destroyed the democracy in his party and created a hub of corrupt thugs. Thaksin, with all his mistakes, anti democratic tics, pales in comparision to Suthep. Worst than Suthep, nobody. Just go and ask to Chuan Leekpai when he complained about Suthep corruption and anti democratic behaviour. But Suthep has powerful friends, that;'s t. And he brainwashes few guillible Thais and farangs also. We have more than one here. I would probably support real peaceful demostrations if they were led by a decent people, like Leekpai and not that gangster ultracorrupt and ultraconvicted Suthep. ginjag
The Peoples Army to Overthrow the Thaksin Regime. Fascist from start to finish and Even Suthep had to reighn them in a time or two. No sympathy, they really had this coming and had just closes a polling station and were on the way to yet another one when they were stopped. Say what you want. These minority violent gangs hijacking democracy have to be stopped. As in other country's you try gently gently... Which they did... The badly overlooked just how little support they have outside their camps. They are not popular and they have no support at all from Governemts and Media around the world. We looked on horrifed today and the stream of pictures coming in of voters been harrassed, beaten, strangled and abused. Somebody finally had enough of the crap and stopped the anarchy in Bang Na. Will there be no end to how much damage the Army will allow this group to do to the country we thought. Can a thousand mobsters really stop an election. Well, the answer was no. Many great pics of people getting to vote and even forcing the Cowardly EC to re-open some stations once the mob had gone. Many don't like it, but it stopped them in their tracks and allowed the other stations in the area to freely go about their business and allowed people to vote without having to face the vile threats and indimidations of the mob. Few countries in the world would have tolerated this regime in power for 3+ years. do not blame others for the Sh#t we are in.
