Motorcycles technologies lag 30 years behind cars and bicycles

From my personal experience all my friends come to Thailand and lived here for few years have at least one motorcycle or scooter accident. I think there is a big room in improving safety of scooters and motorcycles.

In case of panic braking for example on motorcycle without ABS and no combined braking  there is a high chance driver react or start braking too late or lock wheels due to overbraking and falls. You need press clutch first and right after press both brakes one by foot and one by hand. You also need to consider the fact hand reaction is faster than foot, especially if you ride in motorcycle boots and yout foot is somewhere on foot peg.

If you drive motorcycle with automatic  transmission, combined braking system and ABS, you only need to press one brake by hand with full force. This give you and advantage for about 1 second, and zero chance to lock wheel.

You say ALL your friends have had at least 1 motorbike accident in Thailand. Read this over and over to yourself a few times.  NOW , i dont know you or your friends , but , did they come to Thailand with FULL motorbike licences.  If not , the cause of all these accidents may not lie in in the fact that their motorbikes / scooters didnt have adjustable    seats. Im not trying to be a smart arse , but consider some good rider training and advanced defensive riding courses , for your sake , and ours.

Sounds like you are blaming your accident on the design rather than your own actions.

If you want to gun your engine get a regular geared bike with a clutch.... personally I don't and find a fully automatic easy to drive. Squeeze the brake and call that park.

State of the art motorcycle.  No brakes , runs on methanol, one gear, no rear suspension, weighs a minimum of 77 kilograms (170 lb).  Simple 500cc single with carburetor and about 75 horsepower.  There's a clutch and a throttle to keep the rider busy.

Absolute nonsense.

glad you're self-selecting yourself out.  what a load of whiny malarkey.   modern scooters are reliable, practical, and comfortable.  my enjoyment of life in Bangkok increased many folds when i switched from public transport to Honda PCX for my daily transport needs.  it's best to not talk about things you know nothing about lest you will come across as ignorant.

This the problem? In theory one should never ride and get into a situation where "panic" comes into it. Riding a bike is not just about being relaxed and tootling along. It is about being conscious and aware of everything around you 100% of the time. OK most accidents happen close to home. Why? Being too relaxed!

^^^ Love Speedway, when I can get to watch it. Tai Woffinden, Greg Hancock, Antonio Lindback, et al.

The smell of Castrol R takes me back to my school days. Speedway and Karting , when they were called go-karts. Im only 52. Tis sometimes better to be thought  an idiot , whilst remaining quiet , than to comment , and remove all doubt.

I only recently started watching it.  It's pretty fascinating, a circular drag race, and one can actually sort of follow the action.  Perfect for my short attention span.  Best part is the babes in tight outfits at the starting line with the signs.

Woffinden is not always so consistent, but has some amazing rides (big balls).  Hancock is an incredible starter.  If he gets a hole shot, he's pretty consistent.  A great older rider.  I saw one where he and another rider tangled.  Greg's hand got sucked between the other rider's rear tire and fender.  Ouch!  The list of great riders goes on and on.

They were never called that, at least not by the guys that raced them!

BTW one can still buy it in small bottles from local "hole -in-the-wall" mocy parts places.

Smells good , dont it. When i raced a Norton Villiers kart , at 10 to 16 years old  i thought we called them go-karts , in England.. Long time ago , so maybe im wrong. Ive raced them since , and call them karts.  No Castrol R 30 though.

Ah the 210 gearbox class . They used to be at meetings I went to. Forget what colour number plates they had. I used yellow. Forget what oil I used? Not R though. Used to use that in BRISCA F2 engines. Either that or Bardahl. But not together!

I trust you know R is castor based , and needs to be totally removed from engine and tank if you switch to synthetic oil , which has its advantages. Castrol 747 is a good one. BRISCA - stock car ?. I go to Hendesford Hills raceway .

Modern automatic transmission beat manual in all aspects, less fuel consumption and faster acceleration.
I can understand 10 years ago people choose manuals, cause they had better mileage and acceleration, but now automatic wins.

I disagree about fuel consumption
plus you can't bump start an auto
or use the gears/engine braking when going down a looooong hill
auto transmission is also more complicated with more to go wrong.

Before moving to Thailand i never rode motorcycles,

And thats exactly how you should have stayed.

It quite easy for me to spot 'your' type, they look awkward on a motorcycle and dont ride very well.

They always somehow manage to look as though they are about to fall off even riding in straight line. It's hard to describe but they always have the unstable look until they have a few miles behind them.

Had a friend who took weeks to learn how to turn left at low speed without opening the throttle ?? and closing it on slow right hand turn, stalling and falling off.

Geez is that place still going. Sadly I'm old enough to be a Super Stu fan.

I got a bottle of castor from a local tool supplies shop, very old, quite cheap, before i got back there thay had a clean up and the other (un marked) was gone....

100+ octane with castor is one of those smells you just love

From memory he is/was a Hot Rod guy? Escorts? We used to race F2 on the southern tracks, got to red roof. Then I discovered Karting in Luxembourg so used to race home counties tracks. Then went to Canada and used to race in Minnesota.

Escorts , yes. He also raced touring cars , autograss , which i was also involved with , and trucks - with Steve Parish. Hes still a show off , 555. He was multiple World champ , so he has the right to show off.

I think my younger brother used Blendzall castor in his 125cc Montesa motocross bike.  Smelled good.

Dont know if we had that in England , but i used Castrol R30 / R40. OK , back "on topic". What comfort modifications do people make to their bikes. Me , higher bars and rotate levers downwards a bit ( for when standing ) , on off road bikes , , and flatter seats , to remove pillion hump.

Comfort seat was a big one for me. I need the extra padding after fracturing my neck and my back in 2 places in a previous accident.

Got the padded pillion for the misso as well for some long road trips.

Bar end mirrors were great for vision past my shoulders (I’m quite broad) and look much nicer than the standard antenna.

Added some crash bobbins for protection for next time I drop it lol

Stunning bike. Ive had a few Ducati,s , ( 999 and 749 ). Seats look comfy. Bar end mirrors add some width to bike , but at least they work !.  Does it run hot in traffic ?. Try not to drop this one please.

Thank you. I absolutely love Duc’s. Gorgeous machines. I actually have a dry clutch from a Panigale tattooed on my elbow ??

The Rizoma bar ends are actually really compact.I run them internally for just the reason, they can be tough in traffic.

Can get a bit warm on my butt but nothing quite like a Panigale can lol.

I’ll do my best to keep it shiny side up!
