Plans to dump thousands of tons of sand on Hua Hin beaches have been slammed by environmentalists.

They said that the expensive scheme potentially costing hundreds of millions of baht is not the answer to erosion.

They want the beaches to recover by natural means, reported Daily News.

Protesters with placards were in evidence yesterday outside the Navee Pirom Hotel where Montree Choopoo from the municipal  uthority chaired a fact finding meeting of more than 200 people from interested parties.

Inside the meeting the feeling was the same - there were more dissenting voices than people in agreement.

Suggestions have been made to solve the problem of erosion using a 3 billion baht government fund.

It's not expensive for everyone, could be very gainful for someone..

It´s one of many other answers to erosion, but unfortunately it´s always only done half way here.

There have been sand importations before......it's usually river sand trucked in......and is completely contaminated.....

Another money grab by the thieving tassabann!

If you do it the right way the beach will even grow bigger, google ecobeach, but Thai will never do that they want to reinvent the wheel them-self.

The mind boggles .....

"...... using a 3 billion baht government fund." Now I know nothing about sand but that's possibly the most expensive sand business - ever!

My uncle has 20 or so 10 wheel truck and some excavation equipment in need of a "project" $-)

Once the waves come crashing in who knows where the sand will go, I have noticed when walking from the Chinese Temple area towards the horse paissing area just how the sand can move around from week to week.

After the rice subsidy soap opera, are we going to follow the sand subsidy drama in season II ?
