Thinking about having an electric gate opener installed. Had the PAT company out for a quote. B20,000 for a Thai built system. Reasonable price, but if the electricity is out, I would need to climb over the gate to unlock the system. They also had an Italian model for B38,000 which would open with a smartphone in case of no juice. Any experiences you care to share?

Power cuts impact our gate opening, when we're on the wrong side of it, about maybe once a year, it's not a bigee. BTW in Chiang Mai three years ago, Italian model, 23k baht, you may want to shop around.

Another good reason why a person should have a small/door gate, either built into the large sliding gate or separate from the sliding gate, so a person can get in and out when there is no power or you just don't want to have to open-close the large sliding gate to walk in-out.   But I realize a person may not have such an option for various reasons like they rent the residence, etc.

Yup, we have a pedestrian gate too, I can (just) reach the padlock on the inside by sticking my arm through a gap.

Wifey can't, so on the rare occasion she's locked out one of the local kids gets boosted over the gate to unlock it.

WE were wondering the same thing last week ,

when the power goes out does the motor freewheel so you can push it back by hand ?

Most are pretty heavy anyway , they would be hard to move without the extra drag of the motor and chain ,

the power can go out when its opened or closed, so something to think about that in your design.....

Not usually, that would be a security risk, kill the power and walk right in.

There's a lock mechanism that you can release with a key, but if you're on the outside ...

No, when the power goes out the motor freezes and the gate cannot be opened from the outside. It can be opened from the inside using a key operated lock that disengages the gears.

In my sliding gate the pedestrian gate has a regular lock like you would have on a house door plus another mechanism for a padlock if you wanted to double lock just the pedestrian gate or the whole sliding gate.   The key for that sliding gate pedestrian lock resides on a key chain which only has my car key, house door key, and the pedestrian gate key and pretty much lives in my pants pocket.

Plus we use the pedestrian gate to walk in and out I don't know how many times per day...don't want to even imagine having to leave a big sliding gate open a little bit all the time just to walk in-out....or opening-closing a big gate a little each time we walk in-out.   Nope, a pedestrian gate is mandatory for me.

No gate climbing whenever our power is out when we return home which has only occurred around twice over the last nine years.   Just go open the pedestrian gate, then open the house door to get my sliding gate motor unlocking thingie, unlock the motor mechanism so I can manually open the gate to bring the SUV in.  And of course about a minute after I do all of that the power comes back on.

.

Yeap, big thumbs up to having a pedestrian gate built into (or separate) from your sliding gate....prevents someone snapping a picture of my big butt trying to climb over a 2.5 meter high gate with sharp, pointy things on top.

Wondering if I'm asking in the right place to tap the community's knowledge, but maybe a tangent from the OP. If I should be starting a separate topic, please let me know.

I'm hoping to find an automatic gate system that looks like roller garage door system laid on its side.

A YouTube videos shows an example

In our case, the approach and ramp angle in the narrow-ish Soi, and limited front yard space makes this gate ideal for our situation... If I can find a dealership, in Bangkok.

I do appreciate any suggestions.

Hello Simoh

I'm sure I have the same one

Have had a bit of a horrid time with it

Have had to replace    * Gate Sensor on the side 4000 for new or 2000 for 2nd hand

                                        * Something else for 3000 bht (maybe circuit baord )

                                        * This time - looking for the small Circuit board that stands vertical on the A707 main board                                                       (installer from 6 yrs ago no have parts )

Have just sent message to the company (Electric motor ) after seeing the A707 board on Alibaba without the vertical board

If this doesn't work it's 10,800 for a smaller sized new motor (I have the bigger one which I got re installed at a new house )

Just an up date to gate problems

Wife usually opens gate

Another minor head ache

Gate no open ( couldn't even do the key to manual )

Tried pressing reset button - Gate opened & when stopped correctly it decided to shut

So car stuck in yard & wife had to take young lad on Motor bike ( since the gate stayed open for 15 sec ). I was using the reset button (on the circuit board to open )

Another remedy by chance

After racking my brains out & praying NOT for another Con job followed by a bill, I decided to turn the push button Transmitter ( remote ) off

Wella ! that fixed it

It's just a basic Remote

Center button open/close

Left - A light symble

Right - Has a lock sym. on top / & looks like a transmitter signal on the bottom

I have a Series 428 Type (Circuit board A808 )
