There are a lot of percentages in that report but no numbers about claims. And when they say it is data from 2017 they used, was this against all insurance companies or just their own?

 

I agree with Berkshire that this is just another BS survey, but if you are willing to accept without question a British tabloid article as a benchmark, based on only percentages, rock on......................

The 'danger' is that tourists can come here and do stuff they'd be unable to do back in UK, without consequence, until things go wrong. Want to drink 10 pints and ride a motorbike wearing flip flops and no helmet day after day? Go right ahead. Try doing that in the UK.

Those Brits need to apologize . From the news it shows that the brits are a perfect scam artists pulling out insurance frauds. Now that Thailand has been able to identify them , they want to make a story 55555. 

The OP should read

The word risk is insurance company risk, not tourist risk. Lots of brits to Thailand equals lots of policies for thailand equals lots of claims, its called statistics.

If lots of Brits go to Iceland for holidays and take out insurance, Iceland would be top of the list.

Endsleigh ( when I was at university) was the insurance company that was totally geared towards students / back packing etc .

So as usual this sort of report is nonsense - it’s saying Thailand is the most dangerous place for its particular clientele- not surprising as this age group tends to take more risks. 

 

I might be wrong of course. Is Thailand still the most dangerous place for the Brits  staying in their pleasant 5* resorts - not sure .

You can't judge that based on simply the number or total cost of claims from different places, because the volume of Brits going to different places is going to be more or less depending on the place. And that's going to skew the claim and claim cost numbers.

Obviously Endsleigh didn't insure the two British tourists kidnapped in DRC last month.

 

According to press reports only a few dozen tourists visit that particular national park each year so the chances are, on balance, that the DRC is more risky to visit than Thailand.

 

I bet those two also lost their luggage, passports, had medical and repatriation expenses.

Truth is that new risks are being added to the tourist list in thailand all the time..

One new risk  is being detained for possesion of  counterfeit money notes, even in small amount.

 

in a recent case, a tourist in koh samui was arrested cause a money exchange told

him that 300 USD notes he gave them are fake notes.

 

The police arrested him for weeks , demanding he will admit that he brought those fake notes with him,

he said he did not know they are fake and he got them from an exchange in his country.

It is a very brutal treatment of a tourist who is only a suspect, and not in a serious crime.

it could happan to anyone. how can you tell few fakes note from  thousands of notes

you might be carrying with you?

and add to that recent news about thailand as a growing source of counterfeit USD notes (bangkok post),

and you'll get one more risk to worry about while in thailand.

Depends what the insurance claims are, lost wallet, doctors visit for upset stomach. Given the demographic of depressed alcoholic sex-pats, independent travellers and beg-packers, they probably do make more claims than tourists on a package tour to Majorca.

The OP is about more insurance claims, including lost luggage and missed flights. 

The OP says nothing about more claims for serious assault, kidnapping, robbery or even car accidents.

 

The insurance companies are saying its riskier (for them) because of more claims, Those claims could be a doctors visit for an upset stomach or getting drunk and leaving your golf clubs in the airport bar.
