A boy from Laos traveled to Thailand after a leech got stuck in his throat while he was out swimming in a pond.

Medics in Laos didn't have the equipment to help seven year old Tem after they spotted the "Pling Khwai" (buffalo leech) in his throat.

So he traveled on a bus with his uncle Seup to Thailand where Dr Chuan Cheepjaroentrat at Chiang Rai Phrachanukhro Hospital removed the leech on Tuesday.

It was 8 centimeters long and engorged with blood after spending 20 days in the little lad's throat.

Dr Chuan said that his patient was now fine and sleeping soundly.

While the leech was now a souvenir in a jar and a reminder to keep your mouth closed while swimming in country ponds.

very surprising they dont have the instruments to do that in laos....

If you ever go swimming in the ponds or lakes here in Thailand  always wear tight bathing costumes and underwear as these leeches  can find their way into your rectum and beyond .

Thanks to remind me why I don't.

It's a pity but I am too scared.

Sea or pool.
