Is that a V4 .? Its so tightly packed its hard to tell .. That 'zorst tailpipe arrangment looks bitchin' though ..

Not sure.

Initially i thought it was, but i'm only seeing one front ex header, huge diameter as it is.

The report on this Swiss custom build i'm sure read V4, but i could be wrong.

I watched a couple of YouTube vids by technicians (mechanics is frowned on these days - difference is mechanics have black greasy fingernails, technicians wear surgical latex gloves...) from Ducati USA, pulling a V4 or V2 Panigale apart for educational purposes.

Incredibly interesting.

Labour rates - you see why !

I mean half the bike has to come to bits just to do valve clearances. More than one days work to check valve clearances.

This one looks much simpler...

Looking at that bike I get dizzy ...

My eye bounces around everywhere - the design, while technically amazing, is let down by the style.

Too Busy ! No flowing lines. Get a bunch of parts, throw in a blender, Viola ! This bike.

Concur.

That's unfortunately what you get with a super sports bike designed from the outset by the factory to have a full fairing on.

Nobody has to make anything pretty because it's all hidden.

I doubt even Roland Sands could make a much better job of it.

Let alone the world famous TG....????

Here's some stuff from the Pipeburn site that arrived in my Inbox this morning.

Something more simple,

something more easy on the eye,

something to hark back to yesteryear...

For sure desmo' Ducati's are high  maintenance particularly when it comes to valve clearance requirements which if ain't done on schedule leave them sounding like a biscuit tin full of bolts .. There was a dude 'round my way who had a 916 a few years back that had not been maintained on sched' and you knew when it was about by the clacking coming from the top end .. t'was embarrassing to hear .. point out to the dude " you need to get that sorted mate " would only draw a goppy smile , shrug of the shoulders and a reply like " nah it'll be ok " .. But hey this was the same guy who would cruise tyre shops asking if they had 2nd hand tyres for his Range Rover .. Last I heard he'd sold the Duke on because the engine was " sick " ..

25 yrs on now from the introduction of said 916 and it remains one of the few bikes to appear in art gallery's ( Guggenheim ) being described as an iconic piece of motorcycling art ..

It always amazes me what people choose to cut corners on.

You may be able to afford to buy the bike but can you afford the care. the after care some people do not have a clue about

There's a nice Thai guy i've got to know in our local town.

Long hair, young, motorcycle freak.

One of 3 young Thais who all own 796 Monsters in this town - starting a sort of owners club gang...

Anyhow - i digress, he paid 300 odd k for it 4 years ago, he now wants to upgrade and sell it, asking price 220k.

A red one with the white Corse stripe down the middle.

Quite a nice price i hear you say.

Well not really.
Looks mint from 5 metres away.

Close up its tatty round the edges, rear tyre looks like a slick........

but..........

the speedo shows 49 k kms on it. 49000 odd kms.

He purchased it with 19 k on it, so in 4 years he's done 30k AND NEVER CHANGED THE BELTS OR LOOKED AT THE VALVES.......

Runs sweet as a nut.......

Another Britsh lemon, the  Hesketh 1000 V twin, built by Lord Hesketh, the engine was developed by Weslake DOHC 4 valve head, suffered from under development? , and not cheap to buy.

I thought at the time a nice looking bike, styling has changed, looks more like a Vincent.

Wish I had never read this! assuming an exchange rate of 2.4 USD to sterling in 1968 = about GDP 500?

59 = 1,060  1966 = 1,309................

Not a whole lot more.

So, 500 Nicker in '68 is what in today's money?

Prolly identical to a, ooh i don't know, maybe a Triumph Bonneville....

Mine was 1,399 GBP in April '79 if you are interested.

Some of the 955i and 1050 Speed Triples weren't exactly shy and retiring either:

That Triumph plant is right off the 7 just past Chachensao...they might give you a walk-through.

.

Not sure if it's just assembly or what. Doesn't look like it would be a warehouse.

And a couple more exotic 1050's:

A nice drift bike

And a "god knows what that is, but it could do the business on my farm" bike, called Frank.

They occasionally arrange visiting days through one of the official dealers, such as BritBikes, but I doubt if they'd let you in if you just turned up and knocked on the door.

"Triumph has been a motorcycling success story in recent years, with a rapidly expanding range of both modern and retro machines that have resulted in increased sales volumes and profits. And a critical part of that success has been transitioning production to Thailand, where 80 per cent of the 56,253 Triumphs sold last year (2017) were made.

The British manufacturer, which is still privately owned by the Bloor family, now has three factories in Thailand. Key components such as crankshafts and camshafts are still produced in the company’s two factories in the UK at Hinckley, then shipped out East. Equally, there are many components manufactured in Thailand that are sent to Hinckley for installation in the bikes built there."

Yeah, I wanted to show the fluorescent green and pink colours, and the best examples were the 955i's but they also reintroduced the same "Roulette Green" on the 1050 model in 2007:

I had a Triumph speed twin in 1968, don't remember what the cost price was, only that repayment's were 2 quid a week, I couldn't keep up with the hefty weekly payments and had to "sell" the bike to a friend who had more readies than me! Think that was the last thing I bought on HP ????

(500 quid in 1968 was worth 8,200 in 2017 or thereabouts)
