CityNews – Villagers from Pa Bong in Saraphi have reached out to the press, exposing illegal dumping in the area.

A pile of rubbish in the village is taking over the side of the road near the Mae Kuang stream.

So true!

why cant thais  respect this once Amazing kingdom...ps hows that ''war on plastics '' going ???????

Perhaps the arctic circle sleuths should go check it out. Then they might find out where all the garbage in the North Pole comes from.

Nearly all of CM's garbage gets trucked down to Hot at a huge cost.Boggles the mind that they can't ,with a city the size of CM ,have a reycling operation and organised pick up. All around our area Mae Hia/Hang Dong it just sits on the side of the roads,in plastic bags, and after the soi dogs have sorted through it its spread all over the place.

Such a  third world attitude from the City fathers

Didn't know that, thanks for the info.

City Life Magazine did an article some months ago. The cost of trucking it to Hot was  staggering which led me to the conclusion why not do something in CM as far as recycling is concerned. Why should Hot residents have to put up with a stinking mountain of our  waste ?

Countries like Belgium recycle almost 90% of their waste

Exposing illegal dumping! That was fairly obvious.

What it is doing is exposing the people who should be policing this massive problem in this country, and do not! Starting with the so called police.

Who are the villagers actually blaming for the mess? It's a small community where everyone knows his neighbors and their activities. I don't believe that Chiang Mai residents drive 16 km to dump their trash here.

They will never complain straight in your face , even if they know who are dumping the garbage.

Maybe they right about that , so easy to anger another now a days.

Yeah, Thailand needs a concerted campaign called "Keep Thailand Tidy" like the one that worked in the UK all those years ago (probably still going) with labels on everything plus ads on TV etc. A "Don't dazzle dip your headlights" one wouldn't go amiss either.

Thailand need a waste managment for every village. Not only for cities. I don't support what happen, but the villagers have no choice do dump the trash in a save way. They can burn it or pile up on there land. Is this a solution?

Many Villages are offered a refuse collection service for 50 Baht a month per household but they don't want to pay !    This has been going on for years and it's well past time that it was forced on people but if people won't pay they have no chance of collecting it.

All it needs is 1 Baht on VAT and everyone could have a collection service and that way everyone contributes if they like it or not.

Good idea ?? Let your neighbour burn all his rubbish so when you sit down to eat you have all the wonderful fragrances of burning plastic and god knows what else wafting through your home.

Goes well with coffee and biscuits in the afternoon as well.
