Strange switch

Featured Replies

I moved into my rental house and have many questions. The first is regarding the photo here in my post.. I assume it's a relay? But is it light sensitive? It doesn't seam to be.. I can't get the switches to turn on anything!... But why this little plastic box? TIA 20180814_175320.jpeg

The beastie underneath is indeed a photo switch, it turns on in the dark.

Wait until night and then see if the switches work anything.

These things are cheap and their reliability follows the cost, it's quite possible it's busted.

Looks more like a relay...why not ask the owners what the switch does ?

It says made in PRC. Don't touch it.

Unfortunately the owner is clueless about how anything works in this house! He bought it 7 years ago.. Lived 1 or 2 years left for the city..

To the point. You see them often in hardware stores.

Here on the Lazada site:

I assume yours will have the same color coding for the three wires:

Is there an outdoor lighting? (connected to this box)

Did you ever see it on?

Maybe the light (bulb?) is defect?

Plausible.

Just that it is controlled by some light sensor
