Three Friends group leader Somsak Thepsuthin, in white jacket, hosts a lunch talk with Pheu Thai MPs on July 22 in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

BANGKOK — A junta leader said Tuesday that a group of politicians touring on behalf of a pro-junta party is not violating the ban on political activities.

Despite the group meeting with numerous politicians to entice them to join their party, deputy junta chairman Prawit Wongsuwan said the group, called the Three Friends, is not a registered political party and therefore not subject to the strictly enforced restrictions.

I guess they will treat the pro-democracy groups in the same way then.

I shudder and cry at the damage these people are doing to beloved Thailand.

What? Does that mean stupidity cuts both ways?

Just when you think they have made the ultimate unbelievable comment they go and surpass it - again!

Prawit is a bona fide idiot, we all know that much, but at what point is anybody actually going to do anything at all? Do Thai people even understand this, or care. It has gone well, well beyond pathetic now and yet the Thais en masse still sit on their backsides not even caring.

I guess am wrong though for expecting more to be done. Sad as can be

I'm afraid I've almost lost all hope now that the Thais are going to mount a massive push to get their country and their freedom back. They really don't seem to be all that bothered by anything that's happening now. Loads of excuses have been put up over the past 4+ years to defend them ('oh, wait until after the royal Funeral - then you'll see the Thais fight back'; 'oh, you wait and see how angry the Thais will be when they don't get an election early in 2018 ...', etc.) - but nothing ever happens - apart from a small (very small) group of immensely brave students and workers who 'walked for freedom'. Mai ben rai. Freedom doesn't really matter. Thai soap operas on TV and Facebook are much more important.

So: I for one am beginning to think (in fact, have thought so for some time now) that the Thais en masse will let the autocracy roll on all over them and won't really resist - not today, not tomorrow, not next year, not in 2020.

And the junta knows it. Therein lies the power and sovereignty (a stolen one) of the military junta. They have power - because the Thais have handed it to them. The Thais really could not have made it much easier for the junta if they had tried. Junta rule in Thailand - it's a doddle!

Mai ben rai.

Mr DPM, tell that to all the activists, they are not politicians either.

Three Friends group

It would appear from the photo that one of the two major attributes needed to qualify as a member of the Three Friends Group is ugliness; the other is course is greediness. Prawit is a shoe-in to become a senior member having both those essential junta qualities.

Sad as it seems Eligius this appears to be the case. It seems that this is how they have put up with bureaucratic bunglers that inhabit every town hall, tessabaan, land office and the myriad of other offices that more often than not obstruct and deny them their rights as citizens. They have never seen real democracy, proper respect for human rights, law and order or all the other things that lay beyond their grasp. My son of 27 says that getting shot is too high a price to pay so they go on living in an alternative world, pay no attention and no tax, and try to survive as best as they can. They have never been part of running this country and dont feel they ever will be.

Not paying taxes is civil disobedience, and the junta's little watch loving troll does encourage such behavior.  The statement speaks for itself and shows there are no limits what the junta will do to stay in power.   They violate their own awful laws when it suits them.  And yet they wonder why nobody likes them.

The very fact that the title calls them 'Pro-Junta Politicians' and then says they are not in fact politicians, in the same line for me sums up the Junta. They are not politicians, both the campaigning group and the Junta and to that end should have nothing to do with 'democratically elected governments' made up from politicians.

That said, what is to stop the other political parties hiring non-political 3rd parties to do their campaigning for them? Play the Junta at their own game?

Sounds like perfect Thai logic to me, "They are, therefore they are not "

We make the laws, so they can't apply to us

Thai logic compels us to make illogical statements

This is why thailand will always be a developing country. The average person only lives for today. No concern for tomorrow. Call it a happy life or call it what you will but ignorance is bliss

There you have it and your own statement illustrates exactly why they get away with it.  Identify any Thai male with a gram of intelligence and you may have identified someone who could lead Thailand from the 18th century to the 21st.    Good luck with your search.

You can see now?

Make a choice Thai citizens

Stand up or bend over your choice

Do not think a no answer is anything but being bent over either.

There are more than 5 of them, so shouldn't they be arrested for talking politics anyway?

They'll get dumped on from a very high altitude, that's what.

Yep, no doubt. But it would be interesting to see the Junta's response and reasoning for them getting dumped. It would be in the public domain; what excuse would they use to maintain their own 3rd party campaigning group?

Your son is right. Getting shot is too high a price to pay for putting an end to such bullshit and hypocracy. Your son, like most Thais, understands that this regime will not hesitate to shoot if or more likely when (eventually) they are challenged.

It is almost inevitable that this regime is going to go down with bloodshed and violence. Your son, along with most Thais knows that. The political opposition know that. It will have to be a bigger and stronger catalyst than such bullshit and hypocracy which will spark the confrontations, protests and bloodshed which will topple them.

If you are going to risk your life, there has to be a bloody good reason. Bullshit and hypocracy are not enough.
