Broke and busted: Malaysian tourist caught fibbing to Chiang Mai police

A Malaysian tourist who claimed he’d been robbed by a farang man in Muang Chiang Mai has been charged with filing a false police complaint.

Pravin Krishnan, 20, was booked at 3am on Friday, less than two hours after lodging the complaint.

Police say he admitted to lying and claimed he did so because he’d run out of money and wanted an excuse for his parents in Malaysia to send him more.

Krishnan claimed that a Western man with a blond beard robbed him at knifepoint while he was walking on Soi 3 off Loi Kroh Road at 1am.

Police went to the scene, quizzed residents and a security guard and found no witnesses. They returned to the station and confronted Krishnan, he admitted it was a scam.

He wanted the police complaint document to convince his parents to give him more money and didn’t want to be scolded for blowing his budget.

He will now probably face charges for filing a false complaint, now he really will get a scolding from his parents, 20 years old, time to grow up.

His face says, i aint gonna get any money outa this joker.:cheesy:

20 is a bit old to be playing serious criminal "false report" claims. A few nights in the cooler might get his attention.

Looks to be a little old to be vacationing on his parent's dime. :coffee1:

To the pokey for him...

Good work by the cops, considering that less diligent investigators might have gone the easy route and rounded up a bunch of bearded blonde tourists, had the false victim point to one, and then let the kangaroo court commence. But the cops know what the scammer does not-- this kind of violent tourist-on-tourist street crime is unheard of in Chiang Mai.

Spoilt entitled moron.

The little emperors (and empresses) that wealthy Asian mothers produce is a blight on their societies.
