Good deed of the day: Thais praised for giving lift to German in Phitsanulok

 

 

A group of Thais have been praised online for helping a German man stranded in Phitsanulok.

 

Teerasak Kamwasee posted a video on his Facebook page showing him and a group of friends giving a lift to the German.

 

The man, identified only as Christian, was left stranded after the bus he was due to catch failed to stop for him.

 

In the post Teerasak explained that Christian told them he lived in Buriram but had been visiting his friend who is in jail in Phitsanulok.

 

The group saw that Christian might be in need of assistance and offered to give him a ride.

 

The footage, which was uploaded on 4 August, has since gone viral and amassed more than half a million views.

 

People commenting on the post were full of praise for the Teerasak and his friends.

In other news today : In civilized countries people get lifts every minute of the day.

 

Just shows how messed up this Thai facebook community actually is.

I doubt if someone visiting their pal in the lockup in Huntsville, TX would get a lift just because he missed the bus.

Was it written on his forehead who he had visited before he went to the bus station?

Ive had the pleasure of being picked up 3 times by Thais and forgotten how many times pushing my bike to get gas, it is one good thing here that would be unlikely in most other countries, however this screams out as a set up.

Facebook will be in meltdown if he leaves his umbrella on the back seat and it gets returned together with 100k he never had before?

I don't have FB so can't see the video but likely that was "mai chouey" meaning "no help the farang". Which in Thai could be referring to past, present or future. If spoken in the car that gave the lift was probably a comment on the fact that no one (else) had helped him.

I agree, whilst, much to my daughters disdain, as she was educated in Bangkok, I only speak (badly) Issan Thai.

Yes a normal pick up , someone being kind to a farang, everyone are shocked , TIT.

The first word was "maa" not "mai". So the phrase was "maa chuay farang" or "[we] came to help the farang".

 

Nice to see concerned citizens who came to help however they could. Good going.

 

they just like the photo op, be it the man in the street of the old bill, why all this fuss and front page news kids at play again, Oh look at me doing a good deed. slow news day was it ??

Only on thaivisa you find people that become angry and bitter even by a good Samaritan. Is anyone even surprised anymore? The general reaction to this story illustrates this is an area Thai's got it right and the farangs got it wrong.

Not surprised at all there are a lot of bitter people out there who blame Thais for everything. Then add a lil nationalism and then you get those kinds of remarks.

Some people seem to forget that one can read face-book during work breaks and its always there on the mobile it takes less then a second to like a post. Its not as if people are glued behind a computer all the time.

 

Lots of them are glued behind a phone..but you can use a phone while in a MRT (you already lose time so why not play with your phone), same goes for a lot of other times you have to wait for something. Phone in hand read a bit done. Its not as time consuming as you think. Besides what else do you have to do while traveling.

Normally as a Youtube vlogger you ned to be a genius to get 800k views , but not in Thailand.

Just find a farang and give him a lift , and bang , now almost a million views.  Do they get paid for videos on Facebook? 

 

 

In most cases i find Thai people willing to be helpful.

I agree that is my experience too. But it does depend where you live. People who are bothered by foreigners like in Pattaya are less friendly as those who see few foreigners. Its only normal there are places in France and Italy that are swamped with tourists and they are less friendly as other places where they see less tourists.

 

I have been helped out by Thais on more then a few occasions (bike problems).

Yes example in Barcelona locals are now hanging up signs for tourists that says : please do try Balcooning its fun and adventurous! while they know that already this year 12 drunk tourists died from Balcooning in Mallorca. 

As a direct result of this exemplary kindness, TAT spokesperson announced that they are expecting a 47.3% rise in tourist arrivals named Günter.

Hence my feeling its a set up. Look at what is said with the physical and verbal reactions. They have barely opened the window and the guy is already telling them he is going to Buriram. Is it also a past time for Thais to film every foreigner they see?. It does happen and has to me on 3 occasions but this just seems so fake.

Oh I don't know...look around at your surroundings, smile at someone, maybe even start a conversation (oh you can't - they're all glued to a screen).

During my first visit to Thailand, 10 years ago,  i was given lifts 3 times in 10 days (without asking). After that i usually had access to a vehicle. So, I do not think this a rare event - at least it didn't used to be.

Why are the netizens never there when Im out and  about?? Ran into some Thai cyclists a year or so ago at a 7-11 one had  got a flat tyre but not punctured or very slow, I whipped out my 12v pump and blew the tyres up for them and off they went............ amazed they had no bike pump with them, when i was  a  kid and folk had some sense we never went out without bike  pump and puncture  repair   outfit, many a time ive stopped fixed a flat on my bike as a kid, couple of spoons to get the tyre off etc if  no tyre levers
