Why are people slagging me off,I’ve been here 13 years and asking a normal question, things do change and I’m looking to see if they have, you know where you can put your stupid comments [emoji90] Sen

  • What a silly comment, it is the law here, all vehicle imports are liable to 300% import duty. If you are in doubt check it out, only need a few clicks on your keyboard.

  • It does not matter how old it is, they will still apply 300 or so % tax on value they put on it not what you put on it , so it will end up costing more than buying a newer one here.

Probably because anyone who has lived or comtemplated living in Thailand knows it. But if you dont beleive him Google is your friend. Sell your rig there and buy one off CL

Don't even think about it. Sell the car and bring the money to Thailand.

I looked at importing a motorbike from the UK, it was an excellent bike, but shipping and fees/taxes were almost £20,000, totally ridiculous. Lots of red tape as well re: getting the bike on the road here.

this subject gets done to death every year, op do some research on here, and you will see it can not be done

  • Popular Post

It can be done. More likely customs demands so much money the vehicle is abandoned to their mercies and you never see it again.

Why tread the “well worn path of Farang failure and misery” when it is simple to buy a car here?

A normal question that's been addressed dozens of times if you'd cared to do a little research. In 13 years you never picked up the non-feasibility of importing a car?

Can someone close this thread like a lot of them it ends in a slanging match!

Cool down and wait for one or two members who describe you that they did.

Of course there is a huge, lengthy bureaucratic procedure described.

Tax is not necessarily 300%, there are tables depending on age and other parameters (forgot the details).

But really the procedure can take very long and be frustrating.

Professional help needed and does not pay (if that is your intention).

It would only make sense if it's an exceptional unique "vertu" but not for a 2003 Audi.

So in total, no different: forget it.

I daresay it was your comment "and you know this how"

If you ask a question, and get an answer, then questioning the bonafides of the guy who answered isnt quite sporting.

Does McDonalds sell hamburgers?

Yes.

Really? How do you know?

300 percent import duties talk about unfair trade... I think everything in the trading arena should be reciprocal so you screw me and i will screw you back:)

Maybe, but not one that's been asked a hundred times before.

Why buy in LOS? Are the cars RHD, cheaper than Thailand? What happens when you bring it to Thailand? Are you subject to the 300% import fees??

Will cost you in import duties more than the car is worth not worth all the bother

Billy if you have been here 13 years you should know how expensive import taxes are I had a 1972 V8 Triumph Stag which I had owned for 25+ years I made enquiries to ship it over with a proper import company  when they came back with the shipping costs and especially the import taxes I was shocked , I then contacted another company who offered the same service it was no better so I placed it on eBay and watched 6 buyers battle it out and although I made a good sale it was far less than what it would of cost me to import to the Kingdom this all happened in 2006 . If it were so easy to import right hand cars I would be first in line because there would be a lot of money to make in selling them on.

The problem importing into Thailand is that customs is neck to neck at the top of the corruption scale with the police. That is why importing cars is limited to the big connected players who pay the bribes monthly to the men at the top. Even if you follow the policy to the letter customs will often make up their own numbers until you abandon the car especially if they like it. The cars are then a auctioned off. This has been happening for decades.
