webfact Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Former Mae Hong Son border police commander gets suspended jail term for forcing underage girl into prostitution By The Nation The former commander of a border patrol police company in Mae Hong Son has been given a suspended jail term and a small fine for forcing a girl under 18 into prostitution, according to the victim's mother. The girl's mother, Namphet Koeyputsa, said the Mae Hong Son Court convicted Pol Lt Col Pongnarin Pongnam, former commander of the BPP Company 336 based in Tambon Pang Mu in Muang district of forcing an underage girl into providing sex service. The ruling was read on Tuesday, the mother said. The court initially sentenced Pongnarin to three years in jail and fined him Bt30,000. But the court commuted the jail term by half to one year and six months. Since the defendant has paid compensation of Bt100,000 to the family and since he has no criminal record, the court suspended the jail term and put him on probation for two years. The court further reduced the fine to Bt10,000 on the grounds that the defendant had taken measures to provide remedy to the family. The case made headlines in early 2017 when young girls, who were found to be tattooed with the image of an owl, were forced to provide sex services to high-profile customers in the province. The mother said her family has also asked the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) to file a charge of dereliction of duty against Mae Hong Son police chief Pol Maj Gen Preecha Wimolchaijit and other officers for initially refusing to take action against Pongnarin. The CSD has asked public prosecutors to file charges against them. She added that former Mae Hong Son governor Suebsak Iamwicharn and the Mae Hong Son chief public prosecutor are also facing investigations by the National Anti- Corruption Commission for failing to take action in the case. Popular Post from the home of CC Posted September 27, 2018 Popular Post Posted September 27, 2018 Not knocking the family but part of problem here is taking the compensation. In Thailand (and other countries) this can weigh heavily in the meting out of punishment. Don't agree with this system of law at all. 3 1
Popular Post worgeordie Posted September 27, 2018 Popular Post Posted September 27, 2018 No protect and serve, from him then, 3 reductions in sentence and fines, the next step would have been to have found him not guilty. regards worgeordie 5 1
DoctorG Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 I wonder how much he made out of the deal? Still a profit after the expenses of compensation and (large) fine? 2

Popular Post Darkside Gray Posted September 27, 2018 Popular Post Posted September 27, 2018 Disgusting person, the prison sentence would have taught him about being a victim. 3
Popular Post BoganInParasite Posted September 27, 2018 Popular Post Posted September 27, 2018 Manifestly inadequate sentence, just disgusting. Given his position he should have been made an example of and dispatched to the big house for as long a period as possible. 2 2

Small Joke Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 This sentence is outrageous! He should have been made to 'Graap' the victim, and given an inactive post instead. What is Thai justice coming to?
Dogmatix Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Effectively acquitted. Amazing what a B100,000 payment from funds earned from criminal activities can do. I wonder if the mother actually received the money or was forced to sign a receipt and then give it back immediately under threat that her daughter will be found in a ditch the next time. 2
SOTIRIOS Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 ...huh...??? ...children being sold for sex....??? ...(no mention of age either....huh...???) ...taking children away from their parents...??? ...from their home....??? ...branding them...??? ...selling them for sex....??? ...10,000 baht fine...??? ...hey.... 'unmentionable' ...... ...or any other 'champions of the law'... ...where are you now to uphold justice....??? ...

Mad mick Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 <deleted> is wrong with thailand running round chasing a supposedly girl and guy having sex in a supermarket when low life kwai f- - k gets off forcing under age girls into prostitution mainly and mostly poor rural uneducated hill tribe people being abused thailand is a basket case non stop murders daily, next running off in big fanfare to the media look at me closing bars, farangs not wanted it's blatantly obvious thailand just want ur money you should all just exit leave thailand to the greedy thais thieves Go where you are welcomed example cambodia or vietnam you can buy own house land or business in your name "dont need to marry a local .. 1
4MyEgo Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 Lost for words, "were forced to provide sex services to high-profile customers in the province" and the Thai's just sit back and accept it peanuts as compensation, oh well, until they learn to get up and say enough is enough, to money for reducing sentences, and ask for appropriate sentencing laws, especially for people in positions like this to be an example of, these clowns will continue to rule the roost and get away with it. Sad day for the girl and others, with a bleak future, as these knobs continue to protect each other at their high profile levels. WHAT A JOKE !!! 1 1
