Hello,

I understand that 99,x% of this forum don´t have a medical background but given that being bitten by bugs and other small creatures will be quite common in this part of the world, maybe someone can still give me some feedback. I was lying on the sofa when I realised a red dot on my lower leg. Looked like I had been bitten by a mosquito so I expected it to go away very soon. But that was almost 3 weeks ago and it is still there (see attached image). It doesn´t itch or hurt at all but it seems it doesn´t want to go away. Is that something I should worry about and have checked by a doc or is this something that should in all likelihood go away soon?

Cheers and best

DUS

If it has lasted 3 weeks with no decrease in size  it might not be not a bite at all. Did you actually feel a bite, or just assume one?

And has th3 size of the red area changed at all?

Use pure Aloe Vera gel daily several times . It's really a miracle for the skin .

I didn´t feel any at the time. The size hasn´t changed much, just the "intensity" of the red seems to vary over time.

I went to the pharmacy today and the pharmacist sold me a Betanovate-N cream for skin inflammation.

It may well be a tick that you didn't notice. It fell off or you knocked it off. In the 2 days prior to noticing the initial red dot, had you been walking in forest or long grass? If so, expect the mark to persist for several weeks, if not months. It looks exactly like a reaction to a tick bite.

Not that I could remember, to be honest.

Just read a bit about the cream the pharmacist sold to me. Jeeez, I know, never ask "Dr. Google", but Betnovate-N doesn´t get an awful lot of positive comments on the net due to it being a very potent steroid cream. Hmmm....

It's just a topical steroid. May help and won't do any great harm unless there is an infection present but with no increase in the size of the red area and no pain, probably is not.

REALLY not an expert.  But, with the stable size & varying colour, there's a possibility that something has burrowed in, or laid eggs.  IMO, see a doctor - I'd use one of those clinics in the first place - they aren't just for the clap.

There are some nasty critters out there, especially in overgrown areas. Unless you cannot afford a computer/phone (which clearly you can because you are online), You should get yourself checked by a qualified doctor and stop asking the crowd.

For what its worth you could be looking at Lyme disease, a nasty tick born infection. If Lyme disease and untreated, you could have organ damage and you could be in for a very long period of fatigue and other symptoms. Besides, these things have a way of getting in on you - mix lyme disease with something else and then you can be in really serious trouble.

In this part of the world, never be without medical insurance and never avoid a doctor. Frankly, if you cannot afford both, you should not be here.

I've got EXACTLY the same as you, exactly at the same location (left forearm) been there for months now, and doesn't seem to want to heal.I can't remember any bite, so i'm not sure what it could be.

If you can find the solution, please let me know

I am a healthcare professional from the UK, with over a decade of experience. It's not Lyme disease, and the fact that you weren't in serious pain means that it not a centipede, scorpion or snake bite. I would bet my chips on it being an infected mosquito bite, any pharmacy can sell you something for 40 baht to get rid of it.

PM me for the stuff I buy for the same issues.

You could be right indeed, I remember this spot being itchy from time to time.
Then the skin's peeling off a bit, like it's about to heal, and then it becomes red again just after.

100% sounds like an infection.

Spider bites are very painful!

Even very small spiders? Something bit me whilst sleeping and it wasn't a mosquito, i guess a cockroach is possible, what else?

Wouldn't feel anything from a small spider, especially while sleeping, that's indeed another possibility.

Cockroach, I don't think they bite ?

It looks like the bite of a Yellow Bellied Black Backed terrestrial superbug from Mars. Death occurs just after three weeks. It looks like you have a couple more days to put some vanishing cream on it. It should disappear.???????????? Incase you are one of those on these forums who does not recognise humour, this a leg pull. You'll survive.

I agree i don't think cockroaches bite but if i turned in the night onto it it might feel inclined to bite. I do get them, not sure what else it could be

if only the skin lesion was as excellently focused as the floor mat

well, on the bright side, this post doesn't seem to be a marketing ploy for some clinic(s) or hospital(s) per the absence of posters claiming to be physicians suggesting/hinting where to go for services.

Some ants also bite and can be swollen if you get an infection. Do not try to scratch the area, will just make it worse. Again aloe vera gel sold here in Thailand is only 100 baht for a bottle , I would try that for a week.

Small bug bite, looks like a fly, really itchy in the beginning. Goes away in 3 or 4 weeks. Had the same in my garden in Southern California and here too. I use Tiger Balm, works well for me.

generally a smart person will know more about what ails them then a doctor.  one reason being you are living with the problem and another you care a lot more.  ( not everyone is smart so if you are not you can skip this and go to next post)  .

I just broke my own "rule" and went to an "eye specialist"  that looked into my pink eye for less than a minute,  gave me some drops, and said pay the cashier.  Four days later i was much worse than before (no, not an allergic reaction).  Did my research to locate a very good specialist I last saw eight years ago.

She corrected the diagnosis of previous "doctor".

glorified drug salesman is pretty accurate in many cases.  finding a good and caring doctor takes some effort ,  necessary at the few times you cannot help yourself.

I could be wrong but looks like initial indicator of herpes complex settling in.

Joking aside I think it looks like a mosquto bite Ive had before.  Some bite with no consequences at all and then sometimes I get one that comes up just like that....think it depends on the kind of water they come from.

sounds like you live in the sticks somewhere? How does your wife, Thai neighbours judge this? These people have been with all kinds of eery things for ages and thus know to analyse and treat
