The blue paint is suppose to be for free Tuk-Tuk parking, unfortunately cars are misusing it.

Wheel locks, tow trucks, impounding vehicles and hefty fines and generally enforcing the law would be a good place to start!

A cycle lane running parallel with the main highway between Wang Saphung and Loei (approximately 30km) was completed last year. I've no idea what the cost was, but the weeds are already starting to encroach and I guess in another year it will need even more money spending to prevent it deteriorating. 

 

There are signs all along the route clearly indicating that it is for cyclists only, and plastic pipes (for want of a better word) inserted to reduce the access width. Despite these attempts at limiting the use of the track for designated users only, it has far more motorcycles travelling along it than cycles, and, in places the plastic pipes have been removed and parts of the route are used by 4 wheeled conveyances as well.

 

I'm sure the project was a well-intentioned attempt at encouraging the population to desert it's mechanised transport for a healthier man-powered form, but without adequate policing, it's become another white elephant.

The motorbikes use them 100% by me from Hua  Hin down to Pranburi, another waste of money and also now being totally neglected anyway, getting overgrown with weeds etc

Don't put parking fines on the windscreen, buy a thousand wheel clamps and charge 5,000 baht to unclamp. The wheel clamps would pay for themselves in under a week.

There is an excellent bike lane from Hua Hin to Pranburi.  Built 'Dutch' style with their own road away from the main drag.  Unfortunately, Thais being blind to signage, it gets used by M/cycles and the odd 4 wheeled transport, having forced open the width restrictions on entering.

 

 

Don't put parking fines on the windscreen, buy a thousand wheel clamps and charge 5,000 baht to unclamp. The wheel clamps would pay for themselves in under a week.

Surprised they could speak at all as they had parked on the cycle lane , walked to the beach and buried their collective heads in the sand !

Just start to hand out 700 baht fines to everybody parking there , can have 2 outcomes, 1  very soon nobody will park there , 2 the 9.6m baht will be back in pocket . Will take a while but its a start .

The key point is that the hole beachfront road needs to have a full concept with nice walking area with plants plus a boulevard for cars to make it attractive. As only very few cyclists use this road change it to a walking area so people do not think about making use of the space for parking.

They did that here in Nong Khai, The villagers removed the posts.

Good, I am happy. There are too many bicycle lanes along with too many bus lanes all over the world. Most of the time they are unused.

But I agree, Thailand is just not & never will be a safe place for cyclists
