Third referee then! In a hair splitting mood?

Elliott had successful surgery on his left ankle fracture/dislocation yesterday. No timeline for recovery given as yet.

Best wishes to the lad. Nobody likes to see someone get injured like that, no matter what club they play for.

JK apparently been interested in Salzburg's Adeyemi for a while. Very impressive last night. He won 3 penalties in 30 minutes .....Guess that means Man U will soon join the race!????

Off and running in the Champs League. Scoreline didn't reflect our dominance (at least for 90% of the game) against a top side. Good performances throughout the team and a deserved Gerard-esque winner from Hendo, Perfect response to the odd idiot who doesn't rate him????

Early days in a very tough group but three points on the board is a good start.  Commentators and pundits (BT) waxed lyrical throughout. My favourite comment  was when the ball burst.....'Liverpool have passed the ball to death!'????

Another 3-0 win against a decent Palace XI. Vieira has certainly improved them and once Edouard gets settled, the goals output should increase. We weren't brilliant but given a 'scratch' back 4 (sorry VVD!), dealt with their threat pretty well after the first couple of minutes. 'Hitman' Jimmy Milner had Zaha in his pocket (or on his <deleted>) for most of the game. He, dovetailing with Hendo, meant TAA wasn't missed and both linked up well with Mo.

As usual, we missed a fair number of chances with Jota being the main culprit this time. Stand outs for me were Alisson, (when required,) Jimmy M, Thiago, and Mo of course. He seems to be working harder than ever these days and it's good to see. His celebration was a bit off but maybe the influx of new strikers in the PL has really got him psyched up for the top goal-scorer award?

The Egyptian King looks like he might be tuning it up a notch this season, is that possible...Likewise, I thought Milner did well. Incredible the ability he has to slot in to such a role like today and at his age.

Hope Thiago went off as a precaution only, he really is playing the part this season.

Thought Konate was little nervous today, a couple of moments that could have been costly if it wasn't for Alison.

And if it wasn't for Alison it could have been 1-1 all in the 73 minute. We need to put away more chances.

Good to see Naby smiling today too.

13 points from 15, 1 goal against!

Thiago out for Norwich and Brentford as is Firmino (who did start training today). TAA may be fit for Brentford. A few kids will get a chance against Norwich. Curtis Jones a definite starter.

Straight forward passage through to the next round with decent performances from most. Three young debutants all played their part. Other than giving away the pen (saved by Kelleher), Bradley did well supporting 16 year old Gordon down the right hand side of the attack  and may soon usurp Neco as TAA's understudy. Morton, who replaced the injured Keita at half time was calm and assured in a more holding role than his normal one.

Minamino was probably the stand out and looked sharp whenever the ball came to him. Origo continued to look better than last year. Maybe there is still hope for him, and Konate got his 2nd clean sheet in two games. Gomez led by example in his first game as skipper. After last year's CB debacle, we now look very strong in that department. Poor old Phillips still can't get a game. The greek scouser got another assist and is proving a very decent back up for Robbo.

Entertaining game but many had an off day, particularly the back 4, all of whom looked uncertain at times. Brentford showed that they are no mugs, well organised at the back and Toney/ Mbeumo always effective when the long balls were played up to them. We missed the usual number of chances to make the game safe but for once we were let down at the back. Still, a point clear at the top so got to be happy with that????

Mane is driving me nuts....Tsimikas is looking more favourable of late and Fab had a rare off game. You could see the last couple of games missed chances were going to bite, I mean what the <deleted> are we doing letting 2-3 lads sit on the back of Trent for not 1 but 2 goals. Another missed opportunity , all credit to Brentford, they played to win.

I'm just glad it's this week, a wake up call before City.

TAA missing from Porto squad. No further details as yet. Keita was fit to travel as was Neco Williams so he, or maybe Milner or Gomez can cover RB.

We do love a Porto away game! 5-1 win with Salah x2, Mata and Firmino x2 scoring. Jota could easily have had a couple himself as well.

Decent performances from everyone but Jones in particular was brilliant. Played a part in all five goals and his all round display was exceptional. Milner covered well in place of TAA and may well be needed again at the weekend as TAA looks to have a groin strain.

Next up in the CL is a double header with Atletico Madrid. Luis Suarez et al. Will be interesting.????

That was brilliant. Curtis Jones take a bow, talk about taking your chance. He ran that game, 20 years old, away at Porto!

Porto only conceded 1 goal in their previous 4 CL matches, before that we it was 4-0 to us.

I thought everyone played well, again Milner at RB, incredible.

Bring on Sunday, these lads are ready!

Young Kaide Gordon has signed his first pro contract with us.....Might get in the first team sooner rather than later the way injuries are building up. Jones and Jota have joined the list but hopefully not too serious.????

Not looking forward to Watford now. They've a new manager and our first 11 player availability is not looking good. Likely no Fab, Alison, Trent is out, Thiago and Curtis both doubtful. I'm not really wanting to see a 36 year old midfielder playing at right back again, no offence to the legend but it's a tough gig at that age week in week out. Gomez please.

Curtis played for Eng <21s last night setting up the winner so hopefully he will be fine. Not heard an update on TAA as yet.

Update: TAA in training pics.
