With a wall more time can be spent focusing on finding and identifying smugglers. These people when caught face severe prison sentences.

Most smugglers are caught by the DEA's efforts, supplemented by other US authorities, and aided by Mexican intelligence, with some assistance by US border patrol. As far as Border guards, failing using border troops like were used by GDR on the Berlin wall, who shot escapees, the usefulness of this wall will not be as effective, and the cost will be overwhelming.

So, not sure giving border patrol more time to focus on smugglers will pay off in the war on drugs.

Non-lethal measures can be deployed. But yeah with out people actively monitoring the wall it doesn't work. The opposite side of the coin wants to leave things as is and abolish ICE. What do you think that would lead to?

Goes on for days and days and days and days. Millions and millions and millions of dollars worth of drugs seized just yesterday alone by CBP. Along with felons, child traffickers, child sex offenders, etc....

Its What Usa wants, and Mexico is going to pay! Trump is a builder, and the right man to fix it!

Interesting times indeed, just missing legal slaves to do the actual work.

Yeah, the latest ridiculous claim by Trump is that both Mexico and Canada will pay for the wall. So, as long as his supporters believe this nonsense, the wall is a great propaganda tool playing into their fears that Trump so expertly inflames so often.

We spend billions and billions and billions every year on illegal migration. Stemming that flow & the hemorrhaging of cash would pay for the wall itself extremely quickly.

Excellent point!

Many of the illegals are very needy people with very low skills. Their healthcare, education, housing, etc costs are enormous. Milton Friedman proved 20 years ago that you cannot be a welfare state AND an open border state. You must shut down one or the other.

Further, those that believe walls are ineffective should ask the Israelis.

They also need to crack down on places like Western Union and have tight controls on sending money out of the USA. The thing is people say they work and make money. Fair enough but right now they don't pay taxes and send a good deal of the money outside of the USA.

The liberal counter to this statement is that Illegals do pay taxes - but they hide the fact that if they filled out a W4/W2 then they are committing identity fraud, stealing SSN's etc and bogging down yet another aspect of the government & causing more bloat.

A lock only keeps your best friends out.

Makes it a felony for anybody else... Locks keep honest people honest as the saying goes. A wall allows a faster and more forceful response to anybody attempting it. It shows intent.

If it were just friendly neighbors coming in to the USA it wouldn't be a problem but we can no longer leave the door unlocked. That's enough of the dumb analogies for me today.

Again let all the rich liberals take down the fences around their Palos Verdes estates if they really don't work.

What is astounding, is that people a) don't get that you can NOT cover the whole southern- border with a wall...or a fence...or anything, because it is TOO WHOOPING LONG!

and b ) that your liar in chief promised that Mexico would pay for it, which WILL NOT HAPPEN!

:coffee1:

It is physically possible to do.You could construct a fence all the way around the world if you wanted to. It isn't like there is a technological barrier. Areas that are very rugged like Big Bend park don't necessarily need fences in areas.

The way I can think getting the wall paid for is imposing a tax once it's built to enter. Much like airports levy user fees.

It makes perfect sense to build a wall where a wall will be effective and to build a fence where a fence will be effective.  It makes no sense to spend billions of dollars building a wall or fence where it will not be effective simply to claim that you built a wall.

And the opposite of spending billions for a non-functional deterrent in areas where it is not rational to do so is not open borders.   Why is that the only possible other option in your minds?

Do people realize that 40% of illegal immigrants arrive on a commercial plane flight, A large proportion of illegals now fly over the US and land in Canada (where Mexicans dont even need a visa) then stroll across the porous border.

Pelosi was saying it would be bad to shut down the government because of the economy and people losing jobs lately. Now unemployment is about as low as it has ever been. She was even saying before we needed all the illegal immigrants because we can't fill the jobs we have.

They don't want the wall because once it is built it is permanent. If they allow money for border "security" it can be reversed. They should be up front about this.

It is pretty obvious the plan is to let anybody in because they want the votes later on. Turn those Texas cities that have gone purplish from the recent waves of Californians jumping ship to blue.

If the wall wouldn't work they wouldn't care. They are afraid it might work and this would get in the way of the votes they need to eventually crack the electoral college. It certainly isn't a debate over 5 billion lousy dollars. The Democrats would spend that at the blink of an eye on much more frivolous stuff.

If you check your bank account statement, I think you will find that "a lousy 5 billion dollars" is a lot of money. Correct me, but is that not 50 million, million dollars.

And walls can be got around, over, under and through.

I suspect you may find that there are more illegal migrants that flew into the US. Check it out.

If ever anyone does build a silly wall, you may find you need to build a Canadian Wall, because that will be the next seive.

Lastly, the republicans promised that Mexico was going to build this wall. Remember that big whopper. Laughing stock of the world

The ones that fly have legal clearance to enter. They later become illegal. They said Mexico would pay for the wall not build it. User fees would be a very easy way to implement this once it is built. People coming to the USA pay a fee to enter because of ESTA. I think it is $14 or something.

Trump would be suicidal to mention a fee right now.

Pelosi is such an idiot. If her primary rebuttal is to discuss matters in private (after calling the press in and taking pot-shots at the president) you know you're on the losing side.

She mistakenly said "Trump shutdown " Honestly ,It was a Pelosi/Shummer meltdown !

What a laugh it is that the same people who are against socialism in government funded health care turn around and are for socialism in a government funded border wall. What hypocrites.

"I won't pay for other peoples health care!"

"I demand other people pay for the border wall that I want!"

If you want that wall so bad, maybe it should be crowd-sourced? Let's see how much funding the wall gets then.
