This popup suddenly appeared yesterday despite Adblock and anti virus protection, how do I get rid of it?

Thats a genuine Google message informing that you need Google chrome to install chrome extensions. Adblocker will not block  genuine URLS like chrome.google.com.

1337X is a garbage generating site and most likely created the Google popup.

So do I need to hit install to be rid of it? Been using 1337x for years without a problem, but thanks for the tip.

Did I say that? I just said I've never had a problem with 1337X, no need to be a smart arse.

And I am trying to help by pointing out that many dont know they have created a problem by visiting 1337x. But like I said you got it all covered eh.

Your original post shows you are not too aware of whats going on around your browsing sessions.

PS

Smart arse no, helpful and loaded with useful info yes.

"never mind you got it all covered" is helpful? BTW, this is what the Google site says about that popup.

Google Image Downloader is a malicious Google Chrome extension which may hijack your default search engine or display pop-up ads and unwanted advertisements on web pages that you visit.

The Google Image Downloader Chrome extension is promoted via a malicious JavaScript code from hacked websites, which will force the users to install this unwanted extension. Most often, your browser will be redirect to these malicious sites from a crack, keygen, or adult entertainment site.

Yet Google says it is "a malicious Google Chrome Extension". You said it is a genuine Google message.

Why would a genuine Google message request me to download a malicious extension? And it doesn't say "possible".

Because Google dont test all third party extensions they rely on feedback.

Good lord man. The website you are on wants to push the software on you. However it is a chrome extension, that cannot be installed via Firefox. So the browser is informing you the extension requires Chrome as it would any other chrome extension, malicious or otherwise.

The fact that it is malicious is irrelavent to the type of file it is, it is however a gift from the site you have never had issues with.

Best defense for this particular trick is to install uBlock Origin.

I already have it as well as Adblock Plus, and Adguard.

Can you just tell me how to remove it? BTW, I access other torrent sites, why are you so sure it came from 1337X?

If you don't know much then I would stay away from torrent sites, There is an other way that is easier but cost a bit of money, called newsgroups. If you have more money still there is Thailands netflix (i love it i pay 420 bt a month for it). No problem with virus or anything as its legal. However I am not sure that netflix has sports, movies and tv series it has. You can even have a one month free tryout of netflix.

I found that it even has Thai tv series with English subs and all movies and tv series can have Thai subs too (or at least i seen the option is available). I like that i can watch some Thai Tv series with English subs for learning Thai.

It is ofcourse all dependent on your internet speed.

very good info....thanks !   I have true vision,  very expensive for what one gets, but do get sports and reception is great.  ( i no longer do p4p so really it only costs one short time ! )

Movies however are terrible, replay all the time,  and are ten years old.   So maybe i will look into the netflix option,,,,,would be great to try to see if my internet speed can handle it.  I live outside the city so speed not great...but not bad.

As far as I know first month is free (it was an promotion) so you can test it. There are ways to get netflix on the TV too. But you can just make an account and try it for a month and see if you like it.

I mailed you through the forum, dont want to mess up giddyyup his topic too much. But as i said they still have a one month free period so just sign up and look and see what they have. You can cancel during that one month and never pay anything.
