A 36 year old American man has been found dead at a hostel in Chiang Mai.

Police were called to the hostel in Chiang Phueak on Tuesday morning after staff reported that a foreign tourist had died.

The man, identified as Mr Richard Justin, was sitting upright against his bed.

Staff told police that the deceased had been staying at the hotel since February 13 and that a few days ago he had fainted and suffered seizure, which he received first aid for.

Police said there were no signs of a struggle in the room and that they suspect underlying health problems may be the cause of death.

The man’s body was sent to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital for autopsy.

The American Consulate in Chiang Mai was also informed of the death.

And no attempt to seek  actual medical care?

Of course not. no insurance of any kind or did you expect a Thai to pay for it?

Sad...so young...what could have possibly brought him to this point in his life...

Life is good...make good choices...don't live just for the moment...consider the long term consequences for your chosen lifestyle...enjoy...

He could have done something drastic like paying for a check up himself.

He died in bed with a few good memories, not a bad way to go !

you might want to try and re read the article.  "was sitting upright against his bed."

If the full article says something different then I sit upright against my bed corrected!

Was it drugs, alcohol or disease? Anyone's guess at this point. To young to die.

"The man’s body was sent to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital for autopsy."

...it takes time to get results, toxicology sometimes up to six weeks.

Likely a pre-existing condition and insurance wouldn't pay anyway!

Babies, toddlers, teens, strong 20 yr olds, middle aged men, elderly women, obese men, ancient wise ones...all died today somewhere.

Richard was not too young to die, but just the right age for him.

They did medical care. Rubbed Tiger Balm on his forehead.
