i can't recommend any place in particular, but if you are looking for budget prices like the Thais pay, go to Pranburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan.

(sorry Expats in Pranburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan, but Hua Hin is full now)

and as always, if something is in English on the internet you are already paying more that the Thais.

go to Cha Am and look around the beach area for rooms for rent. many there that are not on the internet.
