The ‘seasteading’ couple, that have set up a ‘floating’ home some 15 nautical miles off Phuket’s coast, are now the subject of an official complaint by the Thai Third Naval Area Command (that oversee Phuket’s security).

Chad Andrew Elwartowski and his Thai wife, Supranee Thepdet are said to be in violation of the the Thai Criminal Code.

The couple is believed to be in the early days of setting up an ‘independent state’ in international waters. A source, speaking to the Bangkok Post, believes the couple are preparing paperwork to codify their new ‘seasteading’ status in international waters.

Being in Thailand these seasteaders might pick up bad habits and throw their rubbish over the side.

Get PM Prayut on the case; he will rid Thailand of these unwelcome and undesirable interlopers with his trusty Article 44.

That lasted about as long as a new political party who successfully challenged the status quo.

high seas

all parts of the sea that are not included in the territorial sea or in the internal waters of a state (Geneva Convention on the High Seas 1958). The territorial sea was fixed as not exceeding 12 nautical miles by the 1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea. The UK has fixed its limit at 12 miles in the Territorial Sea Act 1987. States have very limited rights in relation to the high seas.

Thailand be so very careful , not that they care

Navy files report against ‘seasteading’ structure off Phuket

By Kritsada Mueanhawong

The Royal Thai Navy has filed a report against an American/Thai couple for their ‘seasteading’ structure off the coast of Phuket.

The ‘seasteading’ couple, that have set up a structure some 15 nautical miles south east of Phuket’s southern coast, are the subject of an official complaint by the Thai Third Naval Area Command (that oversee Phuket’s security).

The Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command and Phuket Marine officers yesterday inspected the seasteading structure but no one was found on the steel and aluminum structure which is attached to the sea-floor. An order to remove the ‘seasteading’ structure is now in the process of being prepared.

Wants to live on that minuscule platform, cannot get away if his missus starts yakking at him, nowhere to go, nowhere to hide, bet he never thought about that before he came up with his idea.

Love is blind. Maybe it's a new relationship and he's got plans of "rocking" all day, wet and wild. He hasn't considered "after the honeymoon".

An ideal physical area, protected from large ocean swells and of course outside the cyclone zone.

However, I can't see how they can set up in this area and be outside Thailand's territorial limits. It's always going to be in the vicinity of Islands such as Racha and Phi Phi.

I support the concept of sea cities as something that could provide answers to over population on land.

But, to try it out on the xenophobic Thais turf (or waters!) was always going to be a losing battle.

Lets see what immigration has to say about this, when entering or leaving Thailand. I doubt that they really thought this out. Sounds like the hippie philosophy of the 60s.

A clear example of just how little care there is for the mentally unstable in Thailand...

Do these two honestly believe they are 'pioneers'?

Delusional at best, deranged a definite possibility.

Looks like I called it.  I must have been having a prescient day, or I've just seen enough over time to know how governments think and work.

"And then it's only going to be tolerated until the country you border at 12 nautical miles decides they don't want you there any longer and forcefully removes you in the name of 'national interests' and 'responsibility to protect the delicate ocean eco-system from marauding Seasteaders", or "responsibility to protect Seasteaders from their own folly", etc, etc. etc.  They will be throughout demonized before they are evicted."
