nglodnig Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 I currently have seven bikes - not one of them has an engine though, they have these things called "pedals" which I push down on with my feet.

Used to have a Yamaha TriCity - (I may get another when the 300cc model comes out as I think they are excellent for the City). Currently have a BMWG310GS - (which I may turn in for something larger - been eyeing up the Ducati Monster 821 or 800cc Cafe racer (which was too small in physical size) so the 1100cc Scrambler, or even the G850GS for more out of town riding). I could easily have 4 or 5 bikes because there are lots that I kind of like, but nothing yet which makes me pull the trigger and go and get it - so I'm just still scooting about on the baby GS. I've never done an out of town trip (over night etc to another area on the motorcycle, I've covered quite a lot of mileage over Thailand in a car)... A Bike trip is something I'd like to do, just looking for like minded folk for an over nighter or a couple of nights away.... The heat at the moment is stifling the MC riding... its just too hot and I find myself taking the car most places until the temperatures drop a little close to lower 30's (c). I would say what you said but just as an example, I am in Nakhon Nayok now and The heat is bad but I did ride out for a while, and bcoz no traffic I was feeling pretty good , even at the not long red lights. I didn’t have a jacket though, just an airism T-shirt and sleeves to protect my arms from the sun and helmet. It was like 13.30 ,so one of the hottest times. I explored the area around the dam and part of the city.
Mansell Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 IN California 2 Ninja 250's 1 Ninja 300 1 Kawasaki KLR 650 2 Suzuki V Strom 650's.......here for a year a Kawasaki Versys 650. Thinking about another Ninja 300.....a fun lightweight throwable bike. Did trips from Phuket to KL, to Cambodia via Wichian Buri. Also Golden Triangle and the north. Lots of extra lights and extremely loud air horns which I always sounded when heading towards a U Turn and could see bikes or cars about to come out.......they always waited. 2

I don't like going out on the Motorcycle without my protective kit (jacket, pants, boots)... but find myself doing so more often recently due to the excessive heat, or just using the car instead (and taking the hit on traffic). For some strange deformed logic - its seems more reasonable to ride without protective kit on a scooter but less reasonable to do so on a 'proper bike'... screwed up logic I know - A Scooter (with storage) is definitely more convenient in the city / around town. Out on the open road I would imagine that an Airflow Jacket (I use the Rev'it Airwave 2) gives plenty of ventilation to wick away the sweat, although its still like riding towards a huge hair-dryer. Given more 'outside of city' riding, especially up in your area I'd definitely be inclined to go for a BMW F850GS... Even a city ride in Bangkok can be enjoyable, but the City Heat at the moment is just to stifling to enjoy any riding. Roll on a Motorcycle design which pumps out air-con !!! and Kit that cools (not the wet evaporation vests, but proper cooling).

Nebula Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 Yes, Richard, agree. I did ride with a jacket from bkk to n nayok, also the T-shirt was airism. Seemed cooler than with a normal t shirt. I also feel more difficult to accept riding my cb1000 without jacket ,gloves etc... but with my forza and PCx is different. But also with a scooter one is kind of inside not hanging on the sides for the vehicle. 1

You could sell them and maybe if you add all the money together you can afford a real bike - one with an engine. ???? 1

When driving a car I always hear the 'loud pipes' before I see the bike making me more aware there is a bike near me. I have little doubt this is much safer for the motorcyclist. Alert defensive driving etc yeah... of course that is a major contributing factor to your own safety, but nothing else can compare to alerting others to your road presence than enabling others to 'hear you'.... kind of like honking your horn, but before the 'fact' not after... 1

I think there is not much proof they actually save lives. Nothing that a horn or bright led cannot do particularly given the loud stereos and headphones used by many drivers. Take away texting and safety is far ahead. Start fining these ignoramus running around playing Sons of Anarchy with their beer guts and loud pipes lol.

They feel upset that you tell them they do something wrong. But if you rev your bike that is perfectly acceptable behavior for many. 4

Start fining these ignoramus running around playing Sons of Anarchy with their beer guts and loud pipes lol. Its one of those things which would be impossible to prove... But, I would hazard a guess and suggest that with the onset of Electric Vehicles - specifically Electric Motorcycles which would run silent we may see an increase in a certain type of accident caused by a car which could be blamed solely on inattention of ones surroundings.... I think if you asked any Motorcyclist if 'being heard' is safer than 'being silent' all of them *(yes 100% of those asked) would respond that being heard is definitely safer... But a motorcyclist is not going to ride around with their thumb on the horn all day long. Bright lights (being seen), Hi-Vis gear (being seen), loud pipes (being heard) along with all the other measures contribute towards safety... take one measure away and the risk to bikers increases. Remove the noise, in this case 'loud pipes' and the risk increases.
