PHUKET: As the Thai military scales back its direct role in local administration within the province, Lt Gen Pornsak Poonsawat, Commander of the Army Region 4, yesterday announced that responsibility for several issues in Phuket overseen by the Army will be handed over to the Phuket branch of the Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) before the end of May.

Isoc, of which there is a provincial office in every province in the country and serves as the political arm of the Thai military.

Among the issues mentioned as to be handed over to Isoc yesterday were enforcement of Phuket’s beach management rules, which includes the enforcement of the “10% rule”, which allows vendors at selected beaches operate on only 10% of the total beach area as covered by sand.

Possibly to control the civilian government.

In most countries, the military serves the civilian government, but a political office shows they compete or want control.

There are those that complain about military interference. Then there are those that complain that the military aren't doing enough. Then there are those that find pleasure in simply complaining. Add them all up, and their numbers are a small, but noisy minority.

Minority? Have you seen the election results?

The Army will be handed over to the Army.

ISOC is the political arm of the Thai military and led in 2018 by Army deputy chief Apirat Kongsompong. This is no civilian, nonpartisan organization.

Yes. They now intend to focus back on the lottery ticket prices.

"“10% rule”, which allows vendors at selected beaches operate on only 10% of the total beach area as covered by sand." - Have they trained officials to calculate surface areas of uneven objects and then 10%?

Have been defeated by the Taxi / Tuk Tuk hordes

Nah.....that too is far too difficult....easier to fire all the LO board and get army people in there to ensure their 275K free tickets in each draw win!

The isoc's will have less time on their iphones who will now crush that candy very unfair lt-Gen????

Ah well nice whilst it lasted. So the Smart bus service will be trashed, taxi fares will go up and more SCAMs on the beach ... so it will be business as usual !
