Thailand's Hua Hin resort district attracts upscale development

Hua Hin, a seaside resort community on the Gulf of Thailand, is seeing a resurgence in luxury hotel development. In a new report, advisory firm Horwath HTL examined what is driving development and the challenges facing developers in the area.

 

The report suggests Hua Hin’s top-tier hotel market is "slowly coming out of stagnancy" and improved market sentiment and a moderate supply pipeline are improving the area's prospects for growth. International brands are already opening in Hua Hin, including Marriott, Holiday Inn and Avani. Infrastructure improvements are also making it easier for visitors to arrive and get around, including an airport upgrade for international commercial flights, a high-speed rail between Bangkok and Hua Hin, a double-track railway upgrade, a new highway from Nakhon Pathom and the Southern Economic Corridor (SEC) development. The Santorini Park, the Vana Nava Water Jungle, Plearnwarn and the Cicada Market also are attracting visitors.

 

At the same time, the long-term vision of the Thai Riviera and potential resurgence of new hotel developments and alternative accommodations is "uncertain," the report found. While demand is gradually building, the Hua Hin top-tier hotel market has faced a challenge of low barriers of entry. A recent surge in hotel supply and new condominiums for short-term rental has aggravated competition and caused market occupancy and rate to reach a standstill, according to the report.

It is incredible that they keep on expanding and building like they do. All the while the trend is downward in terms of foreign tourists and the realestate market is turning into a bog.

 

Once the SHTF in China and they start pulling the chinese money out of Thailand...

 

But on the bright side...they sure are shining optimists ????

Living only 100KM south bigger question is where do they get the water from.

Desperate drought in my area at least! thats for both water and tourists, the later they dont exist till December

Anyone who's been to Hua Hin recently can easily see the hotel developments, the new condo's going up, Villa resorts etc etc etc as they peer from their air-condition cars stuck in an endless traffic jam on the old road structure !!!

Thais never learn a thing.... build build build build but never improve the road system until it's too late.

Which Hua Hin are you talking about?   I've been living in HH for three years and I don't see "an endless traffic jam" -- except during a couple of days during Songkran.

You should have been riding pillion with me on the motorbike from Bangkok to Hua Hin a couple of weeks ago then....it was a trafick jam pretty much all the way down past Cha Am. Especially the weekend days its packed on the road.

 

I'm not sure the highway CAN be upgraded to expedite this volume of cars, and particularly inside Hua Hin its a real bottleneck.

 

You might be better of driving the inland smaller roads instead of the highway some days.

There is a wonderful road there, the By Pass  

We use it all the time No Hua Hin no traffic till you reach Panburi

You might be better of driving the inland smaller roads instead of the highway some days.

Better to take the new train when it begins service. It's much easier to walk or take taxis while here.  During weekends Bankokians spend most of the time sitting in congestion while driving locally to hotels, restaurants, markets and the beach. Then when they arrive at their destination, there isn't enough parking for all the private cars. I miss the old days when everyone rode motorbikes and caught taxis....so much easier then when everyone wasn't trying to be Hi-SO.

Yes the new train should be a nice change. Likely a boost to the tuk-tuk/taxi services here also if more people choose to take the train.
