Auctioning off that boat ... seriously? Man, talk about insensitive. Then again though, never know here, it could end up with a new paint job and back in the water somewhere after a few "repairs" ... blimey.

More likely back under the water.

Pics of the different items being offered at that particular auction (note the link downloads the .pdf file which you can then open and view the listings. Everything is in Thai of course !
 http://www.amlo.go.th/amlo-intranet/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&task=download&id=4411_2ed80732c470a062441cb2bba5f083ab

The pics aren't "clickable" or enlargeable.

Seems there are quite a few condos at that New Nordic VIP complex, as well as a couple at C-View Boutique Condominium and South Point.

The auction for the Phoenix (and the other stuff) was actually announced on 13 May.

13 million for new nordic condos in pattaya am i reading that correctly..... hahahahahahahahaahahah

But wait a minute,   it's a whole  71.23-square-metres

The poster is likely correct that it's an arranged rejection so it can be shuffled off to a particular individual.

Any other self respecting country would have cut this death trap up quietly as not to cause anymore anguish for the deceased's relatives????

But in Thailand this boat will be bought and will be "in service" few month later, only after new painting.

Could float it just offshore and start a tax free community? Oh wait maybe not.......

How would they crew it?

Thais are ridiculously afraid of ghosties and such.

I would think that their primitive fear of the ghosts of so many dead on that boat would prevent them from being able to sail it?

However, I guess sufficient cash would be enough to bring them to a more realistic belief (or non-belief) in spirits?

My guess is that there are some expensive bat yard storage fees to pay for with he sale of the vessel being a ruse to get those fees paid.

It should be remembered that the Thai are incredibly suspicious of evil spirits from the dead - The Pheonix has a whole boat full of them.

No self respecting Thai skipper or crew will want to set foot on this nasty haunted unstable hulk of doom.

It's time to get out some Broco 'gas axe' cutting torches, chop her up into bits, and send the bits off to be melted down.

Kill it with fire...????

All they have to do is bring in 9 monks to chant for a while and it's all hunky-dory; Clean slate.

Or have Cat holic priest listen to it at a confessional and it's all hunky-dory; Clean slate.  ????  Same same different religion.

Certainly sounds an insensitive action to sell but perhaps AMLO needs the money (or some person does)? ????

In fact, it's been reported many times that the vessel breaks many rules and laws in terms of it's design and construction and more.

So how can the authorities allow it to be sold as is?  Is this not also breaking the law?

It most likely would be bought for its scrap value as the vessel would never receive a certificate for carrying freight never mind passengers.

So when bought, will the death boat be allowed to carry passengers again? Will it be put back into service?

of course it will , the name might be different but it will be making money thats all that matters here in land of smile , lets hope if the new boat goes down a 2nd time the new rule does not come into effect , the new rule is the captain and crew escape the sinking ship first , while the passengers go down with the ship , but then again we are in thailand the land of smile !!

Totally shocked this ship wasn't sunk in deep water.  The Japanese ship carrying students hit by a US submarine was towed underwater to a spot closer to home where it was left as a protected grave site.  This ship can only be scrapped or else it will haunted forever by the dead.  So sorry to see this tragedy on public display.  Sigh...

Sadly, that's my belief also.

Roll on Thanathorn to hopefully put some ethics into the way things are done in this country.

It's just a boat, not a cemetery.

If all inanimate objects, involved in deaths, were turned into memorials for the departed, this country would be choked with funerary on every street corner. Buddha would be struggling for space.

The victims of the tragedy were all recovered and have, no doubt, been interred in Chinese cemeteries for their relatives to commemorate them.

The hull seems to be sound and, with repairs, some design changes, appropriate ballast, pumps and engines it could be a valuable tourist boat.

I would think it will eventually be put into service in another country hidden from the superstitions of Thais and many Thai expats.

Hopefully it will just be bought for scrap. Either that or no one buys it.

There were 13 kids trapped in a cave and there was time to assemble and plan and get them out.  The tour ship went down before anything could be done about it.  I am sorry for the tourists yet I am overjoyed the boys escaped unharmed.  It is rare that miracles come more than one at a time.

Must be 1 sick bar steward who came up with auctioning that boat off.

No thought given to relatives of the deceased, just try and get money in,   sick.!!!

Oh...come now Colin can't you see a business venture here.

We could go in halves - 450K each. We'll put the boat on display somewhere prominent with a money making cafeteria on the side. I'll write the stories about how people have seen lottery numbers in the hull. And how people have been cured of terrible afflictions just by paying 500 baht to go onboard. We could show a photo-shopped  picture of you walking normally - miraculously cured!  We could even sell the ship off piecemeal for amulets. The sky's the limit - trust me!

Even the Chinese would come eventually if we had a good buffet with plenty of shrimp.

What do you say?

Speaks volumes about how much they actually care about people!!!
