Almost no info about those 2 countries on TVF.

Forum has little activity Lol - I've been a TV member since 2005 and never knew they had a "Cambodia" sub-forum, or ever seen it mentioned anywhere until today. When I clicked on the topic in the daily newsletter I never noticed the forum, I thought it was just another one in the "Thai Visas" forum where you usually find such threads. I see they do have a dedicated Myanmar sub-forum as well as one for other areas in SEA, which would include Laos and the Philippines I assume. https://forum.thaivisa.com/forum/208-regional-forums/

I've only been here 7 weeks but you don't have the "us vs them" feeling that exists in Thailand (the use of the word "farang" pretty much sums it up"). Also as JCauto says, there are now quite a few great Khmer restauarants around serving an excellent variety of Khmer food - maybe not up there with the very best of Thai food imho but that's a matter of personal taste and preference. My visa is a 6 month, multiple entry "looking for work" visa". Cost $170, the serviced apartment I'm statying at arranged it, I gave my passport and the fee to the lady in reception, a week later I ordered some amok from room serice and the passport arrived with it... In contrast, the last time I was in Jomtien immigration with my Thai wife and kids, I had to produce 11 different documents to get a 60 day extension (to my 1 year Non O extansion to stay based on having a Thai child), I was literally treated like a criminal - even my wife was lost for words. Is it difficult to get visa for your Thai wife/family?
May 23, 20196 yr Pro: PP nightlife is budget friendly. Some amazing ladies if you look around. Local transport is good value. Friendly locals. (Had one store owner take me on his motorbike to another store to get what I wanted, diet Coke, then dropped me at my hotel.) Real hamburgers (not fast food) are way better and easier to find. Visa requirements easier to live with. There are casinos if you feel lucky. Con: got a fake $100 bill out of an ATM. Nothing could be done about it as it was spotted days later. Rents seem to be a bit higher for less quality. Convenience stores not nearly as convenient to find. Fewer Western goods on offer at markets. Massage a bit more pricey and good massage a bit harder to find. Though some nice neighborhoods and many good coffee houses, it is third world. If you like go-go, you are out of luck.
May 23, 20196 yr Yes Cambodia has several and Thailand none. Hidden ones in Thailand, one off soi Buakhao

But others will have done this and can confirm. Following this question - also interested to know.

The draught beer in Cambodia seems to be very good quality, and astounding value. I lived there for 1 year 2008-09< have a Khmer gf here in Thailand for past 8 years , have land in Svay Rieng and Kep, go back to Cambodia every year. moving back next year, fed up with Thailand after 32 years>>> If people are saying its cheaper they have not lived there an only survive on local products and food You even need pay for air for ur tires LOL Much more poverty and Begging , many more locals barely getting enough to get by. English less than Thailand at Proficiency level, higher at daily level I LOVE amok!!!, Khmer gf makes it all the time for me Yep, lots of corruption for everything safety?? ur joking>>>> unless ur way way out in nowhere chances are very slim stepping on a mine add; easy extension if ur over 55, $280/year, no money in bank, no insurance Everything official cost more money, drivers license, permits for marriage, any offical paper local street food sucks compared to Thailand but yes it costs less but.... some half decent western food cheaper than Thailand. Bad and unkept roads Rentals outside of PP are overpriced and poor selection compared to much of Thailand ....You can live a better live style in Phuket for less than in SR, Kampot, Kep Malls in PP comparable to Thailand (costs slightly higher for everything) but outside PP (except sr) non existent Interest in money in Bank>>> My Siam commercial bank pays 1.2% interest. My Cambodian Prasac 1 year account pays 8% ( - 6% tax on interest) Bars cheaper in Cambodia, ( $.50 local drafts are terrible, but Beer lao is only $1.50/bottle in bars good ANYTHING costs more Quote Are there still restrictions on a Cambodian girl marrying a foreigner ? NO< changed nov, but you need show an income of $2,500.month ..... According to new marriage requirements issued on by the Government of Cambodia on November 20, 2018, male U.S. citizens wishing to marry Cambodian women must: Have a monthly income of at least US $2,500https://kh.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/additional-resources-u-s-citizens/getting-married-in-cambodia/ Quote In Cambodia he agent get $20, the VISA costs $280. wrong, if u care to deal with immigration out by airport in PP and are prepared for it to take weeks and weeks it will cost ya $180 the other amount goes to the agent and corrupt immigration officials
May 23, 20196 yr Popular Post Cambodia. Pros: No big visa hassles, No 90-day reports, no money in the bank or seasoning requirements, Work permits easy enough, Foreigners not hassled for working, Cambodians are generally pleasant in the main amongst the working classes at least, cheap cigarettes and alcohol, decent wifi cheap, good mix of international restaurants and people in Phnom Penn and Siem Reap. Some good hotels fairly cheap, tuk-tuks cheap and now also has Grab taxis. A great deposit rates for fixed terms in the banks. Cons: Poor hospitals regardless of what some say on here, ( You do not want to become seriously ill in Cambodia! ) Still very poor infrastructure even in Phnom Penn and Siem Reap, poor sanitation and roads, constant power outages, lack of good quality fresh produce in the markets, No beach resorts anymore that welcome us as Sihanoukville, which wasn't great, has been overrun by Chinese and become more dangerous. Unless employed, you can get bored quickly unless you are a bar fly. Governments and Police in both countries are lousy and rotten with corruption. A concern Cambodia is leaning too far towards China. Lack of real opportunities for the poorer classes in both countries. Cambodians are more eager to learn at school and work to fund their studies unlike rural Thais, who are by nature lazy. Since the boom in development in Cambodia regards investment, a new greedy middle class has evolved and they are just as selfish as their Thai middle-class counterparts and treat the poor with disdain, they are highly visible and similar to Thais, driving around on red roads in SUVs and high-end cars. I still think Cambodia has a long way to go to even compare with Thailand, which is miles ahead, the problem in both countries is the massively uneven distribution of wealth. The bar scene regards prostitution does not interest me but I have been in them. Been in one, seen them all, same in all. There is far more to do in Thailand than Cambodia and far better infrastructure. I personally would move to Vietnam if I left Thailand I think. Cheap accommodation, beer, and cigarettes but far better living space in my view and far more to see. Loads of clean beaches and fresh seafood. Visas can be overcome if you know the right people and you can stay there within the law.

May 23, 20196 yr kids can get student visas/extensions, ( ES) even if not in school and up to 17 years old. Same price as other extensions. Anyone can also get an ES extension if they are in a registered school and over 17, but need show proof of enough money to live on ( no idea how they figure that thou) Cambodia does not have a marriage visa BUT they are allowing people married to Khmer's to get EB extensions ( minus the wp's) if its a legal marriage So far there has NOT been a set limit of how many EG extensions ( looking for work) you can get so enter on an ordinary visa $35, apply for a 6 month EG extension (apx $170), when its finished, leave and repeat. The EB extension can be had if ur self employed as well and of course the ER ( over 55) extensions

May 23, 20196 yr Popular Post This has been a wickedly good thread. Thanks to all who presented great, informative, detailed information on Cambodia. I agree with a lot of the posts. I lived in PP in 2011-12 and visited many many times since 2004. I still have a soft spot for PP. I'm in Vietnam now due to two of my best friends who moved here from, you guessed it, Bangkok. But am still considering moving back to Cambodia. Will visit again in June or July. Thailand is out. [Insert colourful language here.] As for Vietnam, if you're thinking about it, try it. I'm not here to push my views on anyone. But, in no particular order, I'm not a big fan of Viet girls who are as hardcore as they come. The variety and quality of supermarket foods in VN is not on par with Thailand (or Phnom Penh). I really don't like it when Viet apartment hotels close the shutters at 10 or 11 pm. I've never felt more in harm's way than when I step into a Viet street with hundreds of motorcycles trying to kill me. And last but not least, the usual statement: I am nothing more than an ATM to the Viets of every age. Yadda yadda [more colourful language]. Off topic: phuketrichard wrote: Quote moving back [to Cambodia] next year, fed up with Thailand after 32 years>>> I never thought I see you write this. Anyway, good luck.

May 24, 20196 yr Popular Post obviously everyone has a different experience. I find the people more relaxed and less violent then thailand, but more likely to scam and steal. takes a while to get used to the scams because they arent really profitable for the scammers so they get you by surprise. it just seems to be something some of them have to try to feel good about themselves, just depends who you mix with, but you always have to be aware of it with everybody which is a bit tiring. other then that is a bit more primitive and edgy which I like but depends on your taste. PP is a lot quieter then bangkok or even pattaya in some ways but you can still find whatever you are looking for. its the kind of place that people dont initially like but end up staying. its not perfect but where else is there to go?
