An Idiots Guide to the Retirement Extension process at Samui Immigration Office

I should add, they accepted my pre-printed scans of their blank forms (from the pdfs posted in this string above), NOT double sided (two separate pages for the TM7.)

I'm about to do my first 12 months Non-O retirement extension. Does anyone know how much in advance the paperwork can be submitted? I see different numbers floating around - 45,30,15 days...looks like another "localized" requirement depending on the province.

30 days in advance after the book, but it has varied in Samui Immigration office, but two weeks before will normally be accepted.

I believe that #8 medical certificate is no longer required for extension in Samui.

Medical certificate has been required for years for extension of stay. If you have a newer version of required documents than shown in this thread, please upload it.

I got mine last August w/o one and will go again this August w/o one.  If they say anything, I will let everyone know.

Amazing, if you passed without a medical statement, I needed one in October.

Samui Immigration have their own extended requirements for documents.

Did you only supply the few documents mentioned in above link?

Hey parallaxtech, did you need a copy of your rental agreement (or a yellow book) and a hand draw map of the way to your place of stay?

Those docs are not mentioned in the general requirements you quoted but still required by Samui Immigration.

No, I have the house in my name and show a Thai document stating that I am the owner (Notification of Housemaster).  I did draw the map and follow all the other rules.  I will let you know in August.  I would appreciate it if someone doing an extension before then would ask the plump lady if it's required.  Who knows, they may require a Covid-free medical certificate now.

I got an extension a week ago and they were going through the paperwork searching for the medical certificate.

I got one from TIH as recommended in this thread, 250 baht, it took around 15-20 minutes.

In regards to the address I gave them the following:

* copy of the blue book showing the landlord and signed by her

* the lease agreement

* receipt of paid rent showing my name

* ugly drawn map

* Google satellite map which I edited showing with big arrow where I am and the coordinates

Probably more than needed, but I was sick and tired being sent back for more and more when changed the visa in March, so wanted to minimize the time wasted.

I only had to wait half an hour and picked up my extension stamp a week after. They took my passport as well, I thought they would only stamp under consideration or something like this and I would keep it.

This is my first Non-O extension, I stayed before with O-A visa.

The usual procedure is to keep your pasport for a week, and your paperwork sound perfectly correct...????

"Ugly drawn map"...????

You might use the coming year before next application for extension of stay to improve your map drawing skills, just in case the lady at the counter has a day with a bad mood - a ruler can do wonders (I talk from experience from when the lady at the counter gave me one and me lay down on the floor to draw a map using a ruler...????) - and don't forget to be polite and smile (hopefully face masks have gone by that time)...????

I accomplished my extension of stay based on retirement this week.

Overall it went smoothly.

1) If the lady receptionist is not at her desk, do *NOT* take a number by yourself. She will be very unhappy! ????

2) On a Tuesday morning there was usually 10-15 people waiting. The staff was busy, but it was obvious that they were doing multiple things at the same time. 90 day reporting seemed to go quickly, short term extensions slow, and the long term extensions very slow at about 1 person per hour.

3) I had all of the paperwork that is described on this thread. I got a medical at Thai Inter (quick, just seem to need to be alive to pass) and immigration checked for it. I use the 800K method and they accepted Bank Letter, 6 months official statement, and copy of entire bank book. Overheard someone getting sent away because they didn’t have full 12 months in either bank book or statement.

4) Only trouble was my TM30 was not in the system. Messaged my landlord who claimed she did it on paper. The immigration officer was very nice and messaged my landlord directions to do it online and in a couple minutes continued with my application (I was worried that I would be sent away and have to restart from the beginning again)

5) After about 2 hours total time It was finally completed. She overcharged me for the application (2000) and the reentry permit, and I quietly accepted it.

6) She said it will be done next week. I inquired if it could be done quicker as I don’t live on Samui and the ferry schedules are awful. She finally said Friday. I think my lack of asking for change/receipts and generally gracious demeanor helped speed things up. Also if you openly as if you can pay for “rush” processing they will shush you and wave no to you. ????

Except for the receptionist who I accidentally annoyed, everyone was professional and courteous.

So it takes a bunch of time, but it went smoothly. The small amount that I overpaid was less than an extra round trip ferry ticket.

For your medical did you need to get an X-ray?

Thai International Hospital doesn't do any X-ray and it is not required by Samui Immigration.

Interesting.  Was that hospital in Chaweng (Samui)?  In January I did my extension in Samui.  I live in Phangan so I got my medical certificate from Bandon Hospital there.  They wanted me to have an Xray and I didn't want that so they insisted on a blood test (I believe this was to check for TB) which cost me an extra B220.   Otherwise they were not willing to sign the certificate.

I used Bandon Hospital as well but my medical was for a work permit.

Same as you. X-Ray and blood test.

Bear in mind that all of the private hospitals on Samui are struggling financially. No foreign tourists which is where most of them make their money.

For my general health I use Bangkok Samui and I am being offered all sorts of deals. I only use Bandon for medical certificates as they are much cheaper.

I use Thai International (opposite Tesco-Lotus), same procedure as every year, no X-ray, 250 baht, done in 15 minutes; last time was October, and they did kindly ask if I satisfied and would refer others for their service...????

I read that there are tougher requirements, maybe just Pattaya - not sure.

My Thai wife and I will rent and I'll extend a non-imm O visa.

1) Do we have to bring a non-family member with us to vouch for my wife and I when extending my non-imm O visa?

2) Does the landlord need to come... do we need a copy of his/her Tabien Baan?

You don't need your landlord to come...but I had a copy of his Tabien Baan, and also signed copy of his ID card.

In my experience bringing Thais there is not needed. Your bank book will vouch for you. The staff know enough English to do their job. On the opposite, from my experience having a Thai with me increases the IOs desire to drink tea, and there is always shortage of money for it.

I think latest published list from Samui Immigration is this one from May 2019...

Hi All,

Please update the Samui requirements for extension of stay based on retirement non-OA visa.   I will be going next month.  Attached is the list I have from last year, which for some reason omits the medical insurance certificate (I believe the current coverage requirement, since this fall, is B3 million and B40K OPD, and I assume B100K Covid coverage - please confirm if you know).  I also expect they may ask for a Covid vaccination certificate.

So:  Apart from the insurance certificate, is anything missing from this list?
