webfact Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 Video: Hospital violence again - Nurse attacked by Thai man angry at having to wait Caption: What's my queue number? A video being widely viewed on Thai social media showed a Thai man attacking a nurse and other patients who came to her aid. He engaged in a foul mouthed rant with staff. He was angry at being made to wait to have a dressing done. Dr Thasanathep Yimyaem of Pluak Daeng Hospital in Rayong said that the attack happened on Tuesday. The man had previously been in for dressing but this time there were a lot of people and he wanted to know how long he would have to wait. The nurse asked him to be patient. The nurse was injured along with other people. Dr Thasanathep said the video did not come from anyone at the hospital and was damaging to their reputation. A police report has been filed and Sanook reported that the local police know the identity of the man. This is the latest in a long list of filmed altercations at Thai hospitals in recent months. petermik Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 Disgusting behavior..lock him up for a week and deny him any future treatment at government hospitals for five years would teach him and others.....but it won,t happen will it 1
Popular Post SammyT Posted June 7, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 7, 2019 I'll get in before all the western commenters who hate Thais (but inexplicably still live here) come in and pretend this is a Thai only problem - the comments on the TVF facebook page suggest that it's only a matter of time. Go talk to any ED nurse in any Western country and ask them if they've been subject to violence or threats from patrons - they absolutely will have been. Not excusing this idiots behaviour in the slightest, but assaults on medical staff isn't a problem unique to Thailand. 11 1

Do you think it's the way news is reported here then? 1 hour ago, webfact said: He was angry at being made to wait to have a dressing done. I'm sure nurses in other countries ER receive abuse from idiots just the same. When the news report says the guy was angry at having to wait, doesn't that reek of someone that thinks they're so self-important that they demand immediate attention? That's how the perception has evolved by expats here, and hence the phrase "fragile Thai male ego". 4

Popular Post edwinchester Posted June 7, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 7, 2019 "Dr Thasanathep said the video did not come from anyone at the hospital and was damaging to their reputation." What a moron. It is not damaging to the hospital's reputation at all. What is damaging, once again, is the depiction of the fragile, self entitled Thai male ego. The good doctor should be defending one of his nurses and pushing for the maximum punishment for this thug. 9
lemonjelly Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 Understaffed and not enough of them, hospitals; unfortunately spending millions of dollars on submarines was more important 2

Kind of missing the point isn't he? ???? The 'Point' in Thailand is always the 'Face' of the Institution; other than that nothing matters as the staff are mere cannonfodder !

Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights were not good times to have to visit casualty. They all have security guards now. 1

New Zealand had a hospital security guard beaten near to death last month and in Australia last year, a surgeon was killed after telling some loser to stop smoking next to the entry doors. It's a shame the hospitals even have to treat these ungrateful losers.
cardinalblue Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 Hey Sammy, we didn’t allow any fragile Thai males in our ERs so never happened in our hospitals.... 1
jaiyen Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 "The nurse asked him to be patient" Yes, he was a patient ! And a prize tosser too ! I have been in Thai hospitals a few times and I have plenty of praise for the staff. The patient turnover rate in every A & E unit in hospitals in all countries is very slow. Why ?? Cos they are under staffed!
connda Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 Like traffic enforcement and protecting Thailand's National Security from sex toys, Viagra and kamagra, and electronic cigarettes and vaping fluid, and of course, Farang men married to Thai women - Thailand simply is too busy with these other issues to enforce laws pertaining to violent crime, especially in hospitals. Imho it is because this seems to be in the genetic memory of Thailand and I don't think things will ever change anytime soon.

Because they would make up a fraction of inpatients in NZ and aus hospitals but violence towards healthcare professionals is still rampant there. I guess that proves your point wrong that it's just a fragile Thai Male thing...

Kind of missing the point isn't he? ???? He obviously has a different perception from most people... akin to schools who try to bribe parents to cover-up what's happening in their premises!
