PHUKET:-- Chalong Police Chief Col Therdthoon Sroisukphaphan has ordered Chalong Police Deputy Chief Lt Col Sanan Janrong to investigate a video posted online showing a foreign man attacking a dog with what appeared to be a long knife or a metal rod in Nai Harn last night (July 15).

“This behavior is so cruel to a dog. This man looks so angry, but there is no need to use a knife to hit the dog. Poor dog…,” Chalong Police Chief Col Therdthoon Sroisukphaphan told The Phuket News today after viewing the video, which was posted on the “Naiharn Beach Dogs” Facebook page.

“I have ordered Chalong Police Deputy Chief Lt Col Sanan Janrong to follow up on this case now that we have been shown the video clip, which is so cruel,” Col Therdthoon confirmed.

My eyesight, I initially misread the last sentence, "The dog does not seem to be in pain or discomfort and has been eaten”, one Korean member wrote."

Does anybody know how the dog reacted against the man. I find it very hard to see that he would take a knife and start attacking the dog. Maybe he defended himself against the dog. What do we really know?

Too many dogs everywhere, dogs come to me when I eat bbq chicken, that is annoying.

Maybe the dog is defending himself against people?

Have you ever seen men offering stray dogs some food, and then when they come to try to get it, they kick them?  I have.  Around food markets.

Just one random example.

That is because people get more annoyed when they try to shop at Tesco and go to bank and get money out of their bank accounts ....hard for them to decide what to do???

I don't know about this specific incident, but in general Nai Harn is a disgrace concerning dogs. Dozens roaming free and defecating on the beach (one of the "top beaches in Asia"), people walking their pitbulls among children, and the temple safe haven to dogs who attack people jogging and cycling - myself included.

Where at the dog-lovers when it's time to be responsible for their dogs?

Well he's been outed big time, his name, age, nationality, passport number and local address have all been posted on facebook.

Righteous indignation towards foreigners is now officially the national sport.

'OK, class, today we are going to practice freestyle displays of disapproval. Good, Tanyalak, maybe a little more frown line. Scrunch your forehead up more. Good, Wilai, maybe not so much purse in the lips. Excellent finger wagging, Nottaporn. Maybe put your hands a little higher on your hips, Bee. When you shake your head, shake it extra slow to really convey your disgust, Anakorn.'

Yeah. It's just normal behaviour to carry a metal pole around.

This guy is known to police for making threats to a woman prior to this incident.

He is mentally ill.

My wife's family had a dog, more or less a soi dog, as he hung out there.  Dirt soi with 1/2 dozen houses on it.  IIRC, someone poisoned the old dog.  He wasn't mean, but dogs do recognize worthless and dangerous people.

Someone used to round them up and send them to dog meat market in Cambodia. It was a big business, but Thai police stopped them. Thousands of them ended up in a compound where no one cares.

Great choice! Turn around the question. I was exploring possibilities that most posters missed and the officer seem to have missed too. What you did was repeat the protection bible for irritating stray mutts.

Yes, I know it can be like you state too. Like I said, just explored the possibility why a person would go after a dog with an iron bat or a knife. Of course, the man can be mentally unfit too. that would definately be the case if he tries to attack the dog with no valid reason.

Might be like that, as I just wrote. If the man attacks the dog out of no reason he should be considered as mentally unfit. Missed the info regarding the woman, which make you have a better chance of beeing right. However, regarding the metal rod. He could have picked that one up to defend himself too. It´s hard to know everything.

people get attacked and sometimes killed here. where's the hunt for their attackers/killers? (human) life is cheap here. a dog's? a tad more precious. puzzling

It's okay for Thai's to attack Tourists etc with weapons but not okay for a Tourist or Ex Pat to defend himself against aggressive dogs, this country really needs to get rid of the huge Soi dog problem!!

Defending yourself against attack seems to be wrong here, best we just accept that if we are attacked we should just let the animal or person do what they want then go hospital and pay thousands for treatment!!

The problem as I see it, according to many stories I have read on here, when a "dangerous" dog is reported to the police....it is ignored....no action is ever taken?

  • Popular Post

I think most here forget they are guests and it’s a privilege to stay longer than a vacation in Thailand. The dogs are local, not you.

if you are really concerned for their welfare, donate your time and money to local organizations that spay, vaccinate, etc. or better yet, adopt one as well.

Watching both videos: The guy was clearly "on a mission" to "punish" the dog - or to kill it.
Why?
Let's see when he is caught. This will happen soon, I am sure.

I'm fairly sure it is a telescopic baton.

In the video he seemed to get it out of his bike and flicked it to extend it.

Just back from Vietnam.

They have zero Soi dogs!

Pets are kept on a lease or in the arms of their owners.
