Huge "crystal ball" dug out of construction site in Chonburi

Thai caption: Mystery lump

Reporters went to a pipe laying site in Don Hua Lor, Chonburi after a mechanical digger operator unearthed a mystery object.

It was a large object weighing 13 kilos that resembled a crystal ball.

Sangwan Trairak, 60, found it buried two meters underground and took it home. His daughter put pictures on Facebook in an effort to ascertain its value.

Sangwan said that if it turns out to be valuable he will give it up to the landowner but if not he will have it sculpted into a Buddhist image, such is its diamond like beauty.

Misleading title but sure got me to check out the post. A more accurate "ball of crystal" probably would not have worked.

clearly a bunch of discarded water bottles   morphed into a sphere by global warming     what else??

Looks like calcite, are there any caves in the area.

my guess is that it is raw glass imported from Italy or Middle East... very common in the distant past. might be of value from a historical perspective.

Give it to the government, they can then see if they are coming or going  .  .  .

I suggest that the finder fashions it into a real crystal ball then hands it over to the TAT.

It really will help with the veracity of tourist numbers.

They are looking for all the missing tourists in it now, all they get are scenes of Vietnam.

I worked as a kiln operator at Pilkinsons glass in the UK many aeons ago.

This looks like a lump of frit glass which is ground up and used in the glazing process. I must have fired tonnes of the stuff.

Sell it to T.A.T they can look into it & see what Pattaya will look like next year.

Moving on a tad , if a katoey had found it the headline might of been  ' Ladyboy has ball of crystal ' , imagine the clicks that would of brought forth.
