I actually believe it is pretty close to the numbers.

Which verifies my belief that the all important expat/falang (in their minds) is not the big driver of the economy here as they think.

In fact, if they all left it would make a small small economic dent.

Sorry to say expats, are basically meaningless this place will survive just fine without them.

Have to agree - BTW the original link now works (Thanks NCC1701A) - the report is quite comprehensive and VERY heavy reading. But you can verify the figures if you want to.

Shocking only 72,969 of us old worn out retiree's in the world want to retire here despite the young attractions and I suppose that figure just had to end in 69????

f Figures on visas issued in 2017 were shared by the Thai Immigration Bureau upon request by
the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The day of the big bwana is over in fact with the tiny pensions they don't even make middle class bangkok..

read chapter three!

Pattaya is mentioned 10 times. hahaha!

At 73000 old farts going with the 800k option, that would be guaranteed ฿58.4Bn at Thai banks' balance sheets rolling on and off while the minimum yearly (required) balance would be ฿29.2Bn, plenty of cushion to leverage for new household and car debts for locals :stoner:

certainly highlights the nonsense "if all expats leave, the country will go broke " a mere drop  in the ocean.

A hell of a lot are living on the wrong visa then - there must be 150,000 in Pattaya alone.

Op this is a great find and completely changes the paradigm of the importance of retired expats.

I think TV should make a story out of this report.

actually this report is very damning in many ways.

word count:

trafficking 239

sex 321

corruption 11

exploitation 126

unregulated 24

If the people from the neighbour countries would leave would be a bigger problem. But I wonder why they are not in the 200k expats.

You are in box 1 because she is Thai, 2 because it´s a resident family, 3 because she is your spouse and 4 because you are retired ????

I guess it depends on your kind of visa.
