I've read that all of the exercise stuff won't necessarily increase your lifespan, which is encoded in your DNA, but it will make a difference to the quality of the last 5 years. I find exercise so incredibly boring that I'm going to take my chances. If the last 5 years become so onerous, I'll drink more and smoke more to mitigate the downside. ????

Stephen Leather lets his character Jack Nightingale summarize this wonderfully:

Nightingale blew smoke up at the sky. ‘Everybody dies,’ he said. ‘Life is a zero sum game. The best you can do is to enjoy yourself as you go along.’
‘But smoking shortens your life.’
‘Maybe. But it only takes the years from the end of your life. Not the beginning or the middle.’
Jenny looked at him, confused. ‘I have absolutely no idea what you mean.’
Nightingale took another drag on his cigarette before continuing. ‘Say I live until I’m seventy-five without smoking. And say I die at seventy if I do smoke. I lose five years. But really, Jenny, what am I going to be doing during those five years? Sitting in a bedsit somewhere watching the football, assuming I’ve enough of a pension to be able to afford Sky Sport?’

A very good point. Learn the Thai language you will repel the bad ones and hopefully attract someone that has nothing to do with the bars or massage shops. Thais can spot a foreigner with a bar girl a mile away. It is such a common sight throughout Thailand. Sloppy foreigner with bar girl. Want the Thais to treat you with respect? Dress well , learn the language, avoid bar girls and foreigners that look like pigs. Hang with better company be polite and chances are good you will be much better off in Thailand. Don,t listen to my advice you deserve what you get. Its that simple.

Learning Thai certainly helps in many aspects of Thailand life.

However, while it may repel bad lower class Thais, it may very well attract bad upper class ones. Like the ones who want to go into business with you so that they can steal your assets.

What I'm saying is that education or money or status in Thailand makes an average person no less dangerous. And in fact just the opposite.

The people usually share the same culture and ethical/moral/legal attitudes. The "better class" ones are just more clever to victimize people.

ven using  cotton buds is supposedly not good .

And what about Pedicure and Manicures?

how many guys here go to have their hand or toe nails done?

Who wears socks with their sandals???

My GF used to use an "ear spoon" to get the ear wax out.  Worked well!

The only time I had my finger and toe nails done was on the beach and a big mistake, cut too short and hurt for days.  Can keep them trim on my own

Keep a pair of ankle socks in my cargo shorts to wear in the mall or on the BTS as feet get cold.

I will give this a bash, no doubt will get a few bashes for it ?

Am 59 today, happy birthday to me.

Around the house I am in PJ style shorts and singlet until I shower, either before I go out in the morning or at around 6pm, if I go out in the morning, I will also shower in the evening.

When I am out, I always wear jeans, usually Lee or Levis 501's, A-Z T-shirt, Scholl thong type sandals or a good pair of sneakers/runners.

I wear cologne: Jimmy Choo Man or Cool Water by Davidoff as they have always been favorites of mine, last longer than others and people seem to like the smell.

Haircut every 4-6 weeks with the wife using some Hair for Men which does make me look much younger, i.e. I have been told by people that I look like I am 40-45 at most, i.e. when they enquire as to my age, I give them a guess, then I have to produce my drivers licence because they don't believe me, so it makes me feel good to know I look younger than 59.

My wife cuts my nails, up and down, and enjoys pulling the hair out of my ears, I cut my nose hair, trim my nuts and further south when I give myself the full treatment as hair is annoying for me, as it would be for others, i.e. whether their going south or me, (too much information) ????

I see myself as a car and I must maintain it as I do my motor car, regular services, i.e. check my blood pressure, do a blood test on my Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides every 6 months, exercise 20-30 minutes a day, e.g. treadmill, light weights, eat clean with one day binges on a burger or fries, pizza within reason. I drink 3 times a week when socialising but to a limit, 2 large bottles of Chang and am conscious of my calorie intake. I stopped smoking 20 years ago.

I like to take a young lady 20-25 once a month which also keeps me feeling young, nothing wrong with that and the wife is ok with it, as long as I don't throw it in her face or bring her any diseases or leave her for a Katoye. Not interested in any jealous commentary on this, it is my life and it is what it is, with my wife being broader minded than most, and yes if she wanted to have one on the side every now and again, I don't have an issue with it.

Most Farangs I see, meet, drink with are on the death train, overweight, drink excessively etc etc.

I keep my weight down to a comfortable level and hope to reach the mid 70's at least to watch my kids grow to adults and be married etc etc

Many good stories as well as Private Dancer.   Good thing about my memory (lack of) is that I can read my collection   (leather, moore, burdett, needham, etc)  again at some later date.  Now I can't remember any of them.

Like most people with a Thai wife I guess, I can slob in out around the house in old t-shirts and torn shorts or boxers (though clean) - but I get all nice clothes laid out for me and pre-chosen when going out and told have a shave and shower. I'm in general a slobby person, my wife is my cleanliness and fashion regime !

Up until this year I never wore a Tee shirt outside the house unless my wife & I wear matching  ones while travelling....In the states we'll wear the Thai destination tee shirts - here, shirts from US or other travels....

If I'm on an errand to pick/drop off a daughter somewhere & not leave the car I'll wear a tee.....

Usually I wear Thai style, or Nike golf/Polo shirts & 3/4 length cargo pants....Like pictured, that's pretty much how I wander around....

I keep the weight off by intermittent fasting....A few kilos on the bicycle every day, followed by calisthenics & some repetitive weight reps followed by a morning shower (2x day usually)....Had to give up competive sports when I had a hip replaced 2 years ago (that had been my easy way to stay semi fit)......At 6'4" I try to stay 100-105k should probably  drop a bit more.....I also take a daily vitamin regimen.....In my 70's now, so trying to hold the line as best as possible....

Drinking is minimal, maybe one night a month, we never have done the club scene....We tuck in & rise early....I try to beat the heat getting the riding, etc. in....

Decades ago I started cleaning up the body hair.....About the same time I started dating asian women only - they dislike hairy men.....Now, I don't feel clean without doing so.....

I had to wear suits through most of my career so I now enjoy the freedom of casual wear.....At home it's a Tee shirt & gym shorts......

A pretty simple, comfortable, & easy approach.....

I think you mix too many things together.

Weight, having a shower, having clean clothes and the type of clothes are independent from each other.

Personally I like to walk around in jeans and t-shirt because it's comfortable. For whatever reason I don't like shirts. Maybe they remind me of working as a sales guy a long time ago with shirt and tie.

My clothes are mostly clean. Mostly, because sometimes eating something (like noodle soup) they are not 100% clean anymore. I won't run home to change because of a few noodle soup spots.

I shower at least once a day, often more. My hair is not styled, but it's clean.

All these things are easy to do. It does not take too much effort to shower and wear a clean (t-)shirt.

But then there is the weight. I definitely have more than enough of that. And the reason is that I like good food and I don't like to exercise. I don't want to eat less. And I don't like exercise so I don't do it. Loosing lots of weight would take a long time and it would make me unhappy (no more pasta, cake and ice-cream?) so I don't do it. That's something different compared to above.

Personally if I meet people I don't really care how they look and dress. But I wouldn't want to talk with someone who is so dirty that he smells.

At six foot tall, I keep my weight around the 76K mark, if it gets to 78K, I panic and start to ease up on certain foods like ice cream, which I love, and do a bit extra on the bike and in the exercise park.

As for clothes, I don't bother about any style, just wear what feels comfortable and looks OK. I never wear shorts as I don't like the look of them.

I also shave every day, keep my eyebrows trim, keep my hair over my ears, but always clean.

You just wear long trousers?

I saw a farang in woollen trackies once in Pattaya, i guess because of his waist size he had to wear something comfortable, but must of been hot with the heat, poor bugger

Woollen trackies?? I do always wear long trousers, they are very thin with pockets on them, but having a normal size waste , there is no discomfort at all.

Hi Yinn,  nice to have a female voice on the forum.  Does seem that you are pretty set on only one topic though :   Men who associate with bar girl types.

The music thred is the best one.

The op talk about self respect and bargirl. So I reply that.

Not annoyed if the girl old enough. Up to her. Some member like 16 year old. Should go to jail.

But Thai can not understand why farang want to MARRY sex workers. Then cry when they lose everything.

Oh, and don't forget to stay on topic.   What are your grooming habits?   Do you shave or let it wave ?

Possibly in answer to your question "Why are you so annoyed at others choice of lifestyle ?"  Not being specific to one person as It can be generalised as a delusional response in defense of various human shortcomings and also the delusion some think that they are better than others. The envy comes along naturally and inspires criticism of those others. Let's face it would you rather have a Thai lady that lies and was ugly or a Thai lady that lies and was pretty ?  The former always being the ones that the denigrate the latter.

I am properly dressed in shorts, shirt and flip flops. Why would I wear long pants and regular shoes?? Why..?

For those who think this is slobbish I want to say it's because you can't carry it off to look stylish.

Nothing wrong with wearing shorts, but they certainly are not stylish.

I always wear clean clothes and dress nicely when going out at night, little more relaxed during the day. It's always nice to see a sharp dressed man , someone who has self esteem and cares about himself. This can be lacking a lot in Asia. Men with body odour and dressed poorly reflect a negative image. And the gals surely don't like it no matter what they tell you.

zz top: every girls crazy bout a sharp dressed man!

the heat for me forbids the wearing of jeans.

I took my wife to Toronto on Vacation and we had to get off the subway because of the smell she said she was going to pass out.  I don't think the Indians and others dress so sharp on the Toronto subway and I'd assume they wouldn't change dress mode when they come to Thailand for a visit.  Perhaps if they lived here for a while but then they would be exposed to a different class of people.

It's not just Thai people who wonder about this. ????

It's the crying that does me, marry who you want but if it goes wrong get over it and move on you are better out it!!!!

I often wear lightweight tracksuit bottoms in the day they provide a barrier for mosquito, also prevent scratching when out and about on the farm, in the evening can be a bit thin if just sitting, so put more resilient trousers.

I wonder at people who continue to wear cargo shorts into the evening and next day legs are covered red welts, look far worse than any fashion mistake!!!

Dress shorts and loafers aren't stylish on an Island or in hot weather in general?
Wearing long pants at the beach in 35 Celsius makes you look like a clown imo.

Nothing much to add to the other posts here, save to say that if you don't shower, wear unclean clothes and look like a tramp, you deserve to be treated by everyone like a low life hobo. Buck up and take care of yourself and your appearance and respect that others have to put up with you looking like that and if they get too close, smelling your body odour.  I feel real disgust when I come near to anyone, farangs mostly, who smell like my rubbish bin.

My biggest hate is guys who go shirtless in public, these ignoramuses had better not sit next to me.

Understand....... nothing more than a thong required on the Islands......although you do peel yourself off seats occasionally ????

I'll oil my thong up for my next visit
