Let´s say there is about 150 000 westerners living on different visas in Thailand at the moment. It´s also a lot of other people that needs to make TM30, but i will humor you and only relate to the small sum of 150 000 people. Outof that some 3 500 have signed the petition. That´s about 2,5% of this total sum of people that has to file TM30 or have it filed for them.

The result is that 2,5% of 100% makes it more of a silly complaint from people that have a too big "I want"-issue. The 2,5% i not to be seen as a number that stands for the it nonsense and a big problem for the majority.

So, the best thing that could be done with this issue is "Put a sock in it, and suck it up!"

I am not a legal expert, but could envision there is. If there would be a concrete case, and the Foreigner can proof that he was somehow "punished" for not having a TM 30 filed, that was not his direct responsibility, then there could be a case. It requires a lot of stamina and financial means, I am sure.

How would immigration in Isaan know that you left the country and / or spent a week in Phuket?

According to other posts, the information is not linked from one office to another.  So even if a hotel in Phuket reports your stay, the info doesn't reach Isaan. 

And I assume that you or the landlord completed a TM30 in Isaan at one time.

When you go for your 90 days or renewal, they will pick it up the stamp from Phuket international airport immigration, as they did me.

 

Immigration Officer: Hmmm, last year you come into Thailand thru Phuket yes ?

 

Me: Yes and I go again and do same October 2019, is there a problem

 

Immigration Officer: You must always report to police if you come into another port and are going to stay in another province, they are tightening up the law now and you can be fined, so when you go this time and come back to Phuket to stay for a week, go to police station and report to them, they will know what to do, then you come to us within 24 hours of your return.

 

Me: Oh...ok then, Kop Koon Krup, wai and stage left.....exit !!!

I completely disagree. We ex-pats bring an awful lot to the table here. If they want to get rid of us, they are going to have to try an awful lot harder than what they are currently doing! Any discord, any resistance, any pushback, is a good thing, as long as it is not illegal or violent, and it is exactly what the authorities deserve, and have been working so hard to earn. They do not deserve our respect, much less our obedience.

2. Suggest better alternatives rather than just asking to abolish it

Absolutely correct. 

I think we can all generally agree to register our principal place of residence in Thailand once, and again if permanently changed.  There must be an easier implementation than the current TM 30. For professional establishments like Hotels etc. this register seems to be perfectly fine.

Easy for you to not understand. You are probably from a western rule country. You never worked in China or Burma or other military countries. Because if you did you and your balls would have been deported and the family you left behind punished for protesting against the military government.

 

That is the direction Thailand is going and China is their mentor. Forums like this one will be “cleaned up” one day.  In a military country you are viewed as an outsider visitor and a trouble maker with “antigovernment free will undesired opinions” You and your balls will fall in line or you, your balls, family and friends will suffer.  Sign anything you want to sign and let others do what they choose to do as neither have anything related to strength or weakness or ball size.  ????

Why?  I submitted a TM30 years ago to CW and have travelled in and out since then many times without re-submitting one each time.  I have never been asked for a new one, never had any mention of it when renewing my extension and yesterday I received my 90-day slip in the post from CW with no issue or mention of it again.

The 90-day report form requires an address, if you don't do it, the agent must.

Mine has laws expressly prohibiting such discrimination on the basis of nationality. So, quite the opposite of Thailand.

I've always got away using my Thai licence when checking in to hotels around Thailand,  seems to work ok,  only do the TM30 when I come back from OS.

reminds of the thai way...  like when they have a crap meal, instead of saying something to the chef that his food tastes like battery acid they simply fade away and not come back, whilst the chef thinks his food is still the best...  but wonders why he need shut down his shop soon... go figure.....
