Thai media reported that a man in Chiang Mai had caused quite a stir at a market in Mae Rim after he arrived to get his lunch with a two meter python draped round his neck.

The man killed the snake because it had gobbled up three of his chickens.

He said he was parading it around the market so that it would serve as an example to other snakes.

He planned to go to the Mae Rim police to report what he had done and explain himself.

Pythons are a protected species and the man can expect a fine for his actions.

The incident happened at the Ban Mae Sa market in the northern Thai province.

wonder how much this guy will be fined

Probably a hefty fine as he's not a fat influential person. He would be better off hunting black leopards....

what will be his punishment? a wai, 500 baht and cocking a snake Ragout for the community.
in an other case, a farang got imprisonment and only released on bail of 90k for beating up a soi dog. no killing. what would be the punishment if he had killed a protected animal?
minimum sentence: lifetime in the Bangkok Hilton with two times per day of picking up soap in the shower.

That actually was not a soi dog, it was the massage shop owner’s dog,  on the dog’s own property and retreating inside his own home, and the man followed him, trespassed, in order to continue beating him.  With a weapon ... to a 15 year old geriatric dog.  Details and context matter.

The person you refer to got fined a couple of million baht, plus jail time that is currently being appealed.

"Details and context matter".

...not to 90% of Thaivisa posters, they don't!
