BANGKOK, 11th August 2019 (NNT) - Government agencies are working to address difficulties brought about by drought in many areas of Thailand. The Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, who is soon to visit the northeastern provinces of Surin and Buri Ram, has already ordered relevant units to quickly supply water to Surin Hospital. He has assigned the Royal Thai Army and the Ministry of the Interior to integrate their operations to tackle the water shortage problem.

The Government Spokeswoman, Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat, said today that Gen. Prayut was concerned about the effects of the drought in many areas, particularly in Surin province, after the provincial hospital faced a severe water shortage. Relevant units have been instructed to provide immediate assistance to people in drought-hit areas. The Prime Minister will visit Surin and Buri Ram to meet the local people and follow up on the water situation in the near future.

The Director of Surin Hospital said today his hospital faced a severe water shortage earlier this week. Water previously received by the hospital could not be used for medical purposes, as the water wasn’t clean enough and had a high concentration of sediment. The hospital had to declare an emergency and worked with several units to solve the problem urgently.

The water level of the Mekong River in Nong Khai province has dropped over three consecutive days. According to the Department of Water Resource, its water level was recently measured at 4.23 meters, down by 61 centimeters on Saturday (Aug 11). The water level was 7.97 meters below the embankment. It is expected to decrease further if there is no rainfall. The dry spell has greatly affected fishermen along the Mekong River. Many fishermen have decided to suspend their activiies until the situation improves.

So the PM orders immediate solutions to water problems !!!!

Hells teeth is he actually serious?

The only solution is rain, rain, rain and lots of it, maybe he will pray to the rain gods to resolve the problem.

Nope, the only solution for the need of water is not rain. What you are talking about is what is needed to restore the natures capacity to provide the needed water in all the areas of the country. What is needed now is to deliver water to the disater areas concerned and that is what the PM is meaning. That he also assigns the task to other departments, is the need for find solutions that can easy during the time waiting for rain.

Not really.

Yingluck was always ordering every problem to be solved "immediately". Seems same same but different.

Knew some CEO's who thought that was how to act too.

There obviously needs to be more reservoirs there.

Reservoirs are not a lot of use without rain, I live beside a medium sized reservoir that is 90% empty!

Got the right man on the job now though! he will get it sorted :shock1:

Just need to "remap" the monsoons

Surely all those super intelligent highly educated people at Surin Hospital could have ensured a constant supply of the most basic essentials of life by now?Oh it didn't rain this year and the water ran out, what if it doesn't rain for 2-3 years in a row?

Just ask the Chinese to release dam water upstream from the Mekong....that would help, prayut needs to realize the Chinese are controlling the life blood of south east Asia for their own purposes...

Or order the Chinese to stop building dams. Love to see that.

He forgets he's out of uniform now and ordering things isn't the way to achieve results...

however putting qualified people in positions of responsibility is within his remit but that's another story !

My wife remembers a period of three years when there was no rain in Buriram province.

Numerous reservoirs have been built since then, of little use if it doesn't rain.

Give it a rest will ya.

It's embarrassing.

It gets old real quick.

Anything Mr P can't do, Mrs Y can do it worse.

But but but Thaksin.....

I remember watching him on his Friday night broadcast, Nov 2016 if my memory is correct, going on about the poor water management that existed up country and how they were going to fix it. I assume he has fixed it, no water so no management needed.

The next best solution is to get rid of a few billion people on the planet so the rest will be able to drink !!  Seriously, the major part of the problem is that there are too many people,  and too much industry that use huge amounts of water.

You go first.

Show some commitment to the cause.

She is long gone lets all live in the present and not get bogged down in the past. The guy's mental capacity is not what it should be for a PM and YS have nothing to do with it.

Irrelevant. Please explain how you can manage water, when drought hits different and there is not enough water in some areas?

There is also not any possibility to fix this in just a couple of years. All that you have copied and pasted above is about a ten year plan. It has gone only four.

If they stop buying tanks, subs etc etc. There would be enough money to build more dams, which will bridge the gap between rainfall seasons and droughts.
