Kindergarten teacher reinstated, director transferred in overturned "Mama noodles" case

A kindergarten teacher who was ordered transferred after she complained that children at her school were given nothing except Mama noodles for lunch has been reinstated.

Now the director of the school has found himself transferred instead.

Teacher Orm-aree Khenrit, 32, - known as Khru Orm - feared for her life after fresh blood was splattered outside her classroom at Wat Wong Deuan school in Chainat in central Thailand.

She had earlier complained that the children were given only Mama, no fruit or anything substantially nutritious for lunch.

After her complaints she was ordered transferred in a letter signed by local education department director La-Or Wilai. She was told to report for office duties from August 27th.

However, her transfer produced a backlash from parents and children at the school who felt she was right and had been badly treated.

Now in a letter dated August 28th Khru Orm has been reinstated. The letter was signed by the same education department official.

Another letter dated the same day has ordered the director of the school Suthep Singsom transferred forthwith.

Thaivisa notes that there have been many stories in the Thai media recently alleging that corrupt school officials have been creaming off money from school budgets by not providing proper services - like adequate school lunches.

The story was widely shared on Thai social media with Thai Rath saying the case was "klap talapat" or turned on its head.

The term refers to the hand held screen used by monks to shield them from the laity.

Good for her and good riddance to the director. Even if he was not skimming for his own pocket, he can't claim he knew nothing about it. Should be fired.

Our 2 year old daughter goes to a local Govt Kindergarten attached to a Govt School.

Everyday she has a freshly cooked meal along with fresh fruit for lunch and also a box of milk.

No complaints at all at the food or teaching she is provided with.

To see other schools creaming off the funds they are provided with to feed their students is absolutely disgraceful and one can only hope those responsible with face strong punishment.

At last some real justice dealt out.... but only after a backlash from the initial letter sent from the education official... obviously the media attention helped to change their minds from transferring the innocent to removing the guilty !

Couldn't agree more. Refreshing story of the day....hopefully they will follow through on a swift removal for the director or even a little gruel threat.

Rooster

I am sure the ex-school director will be promoted after a little while.  Transfers as with the police and governors are not punishment!

This was broadcast on TNN today, when the teacher returned to her class every kid that was there mobbed her they were all over joyed to see her. The mark of a good teacher.

So what does the local education department director La-Or Wilai say about all this. Did the social media reaction sway the initial decision?

Real justice would see the local education department director La-Or Wilai removed given that he signed the transfer in the first place.

Quite correct, should have been two sackings rather than one belated transfer...
