A video of a bank robbery and getaway attempt were reported on 77kaoded.

The robber was soon in police custody and was revealed as a soldier in the eastern Thai city.

Pratheep or "Ton" went into the Thai Military Bank (TMB) branch on Friday afternoon and fired off a shot to warn staff.

He got 104,800 baht then tried to open the front door that was locked.

He kicked it without success before shooting it out. He was cut in the process and left blood at the scene.

He then was caught on CCTV cameras running 800 meters along various roads to an orange Yaris car to make his getaway.

Prompt police work soon traced him via vehicle ownership and Facebook and he was apprehended at his camp at 1 am on Saturday morning.

He admitted everything saying that investments in stocks that had gone wrong had stressed him out.

Why would anybody risk so many years for so little money?

Time to send him to an inactive post!

How Inactive would you be? - doing Hard Labour...

loses his relative freedom, of living in the Barracks stockade;

swapping it all for another stockade, but this time without a key to his room...

but if more people would be in the building, they would be all put in danger by this armed robber

Fortunately the locked front door is only efficient for babies and honest clients who want to enter.

Just as well there’s some kind of technology to track him because if the RTP had to chase him on foot they would never have caught him, that boy can run ???? ????  Army life hasn’t done him any harm.........yet????

Perhaps he thought that stealing money from the military bank would not be a crime for him as a soldier!????

Traditionally, the military robbing the country blind has never been a problem.

Looks like he drops some of the money around the 50 sec mark in the video and the guy in the yellow shirt stops to pick it up.

yes but I have read several other recent robbery attempts and apparently many Thai banks take the approach of locking the doors.  I don't like the idea at all.  In the USA I bet there would be lawsuits if a customer or worker got hurt by the crook after the doors are locked
