Yea but most adult have already been exposed to HPV. That's why they recommend vaccinating pre puberty young girls. Once exposed the vaccine isn't effective. Main risk is cervical cancer.

There are 12 high risk HPV strains hence why you can be vaccinated much older.

Here's a shout out for these not to be forgotten:

Non-Gonococcal Urethritis (NGU)

- molluscum contagiosum

- Mycoplasma genitalium

- Mononucleosis

- lymphogranuloma venereum

- chancroid

well my empirical experience as a male is you can get chlamydia and gonorrhea very easily from oral sex.

and these bacterium are very common in Thai sex workers.

My pal died from AIDs this summer, caught from a Chiang Mai girl in the Loi Krow area.

Don't know which one, he did many.

Diagnosed 2 years ago, spent his last year bedridden and dying in a London hospital.

He liked to lick.

He was a frequent poster on this forum until his illness forced him back to the UK.

Oh God, this is frightening. You mean licking can give you AIDS? May be he was not using condom too.

He should identify the girl to the health department so that they could inform the girl not to pass it on to any more people.

ouijaboard required for this i think

Didn't know anything was wrong, never tested as he didn't consider he was in a 'risk' group.

Two years back, I pointed out some strange marks on his cheeks (ringworm), they never went away.

One year back (in Kos) lost weight and collapsed, diagnosed with pneumonia and medically repatriated to the UK.

Straight to a London hospital, where he was diagnosed with HIV, where he spent most of his last year.

They let him out for a couple of weeks over Christmas, where he was discovered in his flat after 3 days unconscious on the floor with sepsis.

He had the best possible medical care in a specialist UK hospital at all times after the two week Greek hospital.

I travelled all around SEA with him for ten years, stayed with him in London and knew him as well as it is possible to know another human being, never any signs of abnormal sexual behaviour (apart from the licking fetish), no ladyboys, no interest in men. I was in contact with him the entire time via messenger, when he was conscious enough to type.

Over that ten years we both had multiple female partners, and never used condoms,

I'm convinced he caught it from oral sex.

My sympathy for your friend. I am interested in what you wrote because I am worried myself I do oral sex but not with multiple ladies and not that frequent, I think if you do with prostitute you are in a high risk group, especially with different prostitutes.

I hardly have sex with Thai ladies without condoms because I was infected with gonorrhea and I hate anti-biotics. - by ladies I mean, prostitutes, bar girls, massage girls, girls you meet during travel e.g. on bus or tuk tuk, you started talking to them and it leads to sex after getting to know them. These are loose girls even if not prostitutes because they so willingly have sex with you they are likely to be infected and unaware they pass it to you.  Normal girls( office girls or factory workers) not easy to get probably less likely have disease.

An STI doctor in the UK said Chlamydia doesn't survive well in the back of the throat unlike gonorrhea so difficult to catch when receiving oral

not a mention of HPV
even with Michael Douglas throat cancer story . 'I got throat cancer from Oral sex'

I honestly don't believe Michael got throat cancer from Oral sex, I never heard of throat cancer from oral sex.

He probably be drinking too much, eating too much processed meat like salami sausage and lots of red meat.  .

In China the throat cancer statistic is higher than other countries- they found the chinese like to drink their soup really hot.

i wonder if he was talking about bar girls on soi 6 who have oral sex with different partners every 90 minutes or so?

How is HPV spread?

You can get HPV by having vaginal, anal, or oral sex with someone who has the virus. It is most commonly spread during vaginal or anal sex. HPV can be passed even when an infected person has no signs or symptoms.

Anyone who is sexually active can get HPV, even if you have had sex with only one person. You also can develop symptoms years after you have sex with someone who is infected. This makes it hard to know when you first became infected.

Does HPV cause cancer?

HPV can cause cervical and other cancers including cancer of the vulva, vagina, penis, or anus. It can also cause cancer in the back of the throat, including the base of the tongue and tonsils (called oropharyngeal cancer).

Cancer often takes years, even decades, to develop after a person gets HPV. The types of HPV that can cause genital warts are not the same as the types of HPV that can cause cancers.

There is no way to know which people who have HPV will develop cancer or other health problems. People with weak immune systems (including those with HIV/AIDS) may be less able to fight off HPV. They may also be more likely to develop health problems from HPV.

From my highschool sex education, I learned that orally you can get mostly siphilis, gonorrhea and herpes. For HIV the risk is very low unless there is some bleeding or biting involved. Chlamydia risk is low too. Obviously my class was aimed at teenager with a relatively normal sex life.

Times have changed then. When I was a teenager we didn't have a sex life because it was before the pill and only <deleted> girls did it without being married. Plenty of guys having to get married though, after impregnating the girl, but adults, not kids.

Apparently genital warts are common. I got it a couple years ago, treat it, it goes then a couple months later another one pops up, then repeat many times

Add streptococcus sanguinis to that list. It is a bacteria found in the mouth and can also find its way to infect heart valves if it gets into the bloodstream, AND it has also been isolated in UTIs, probably through oral sex!!

I would say extremely unlucky in the extreme he got it from eating pussy. You can not out anyone for having HIV here, it is against the law. In fact medical practitioners / nurses are not even allowed to tell a legal husband or wife their partner has HIV. It can only be done with the patients consent. I was living with a doctor in a village where HIV is much more common than people realise. The problem is the only Thai people that go and check are pregnant mothers, mandatory test at 3 months. Protection is never used, not even for contraception hence so many single mums here. In this particular quiet little village there were about 2000 people and 23 known cases. I say known as there would be so many more that weren't aware. 2 of those women were actually having affairs with married men even though they knew they were sick.

Sex education class aren't common everywhere yet. I'm from Canada and young but I heard it's still non existent in some part of the US and obviously Thailand and religious/conservative country.

I would  not take that for granted! I heard from a doctor here the Universities are extremely problematic with all sorts of STD's, particularly HIV. In fact I think you may even be safer with a sex worker. At least some of them take precautions

"AIDS would normally be hard to transmit orally, but if the guy had bleeding gums he might transmit it to her, and if she was still bleeding a bit from period or some other reason, she might give it to him.

IMO the risk must be low, as I have not heard of many farangs becoming infected with AIDS from visiting Thai prostitutes."

OMG. If she was still bleeding a bit from her period, how would that affect her oral functionality and ability?

Becoming infected with AIDS? There's only a possible infection with HIV and even that can take up to six months to show up in a test as positive. If left untreated, HIV can lead to the disease AIDS.

You have not heard from any Farangs becoming infected with AIDS from "visiting Thai prostitutes", because it's impossible.

The risk to get the HIV virus thru a BJ is very low, but other diseases, including Hepatitis, Tuberculosis and STD's, can easily be spread.

You are completely mistaken that oral sex does not involve a cancer risk when HPV is present.HPV (there are several strains) can infect both the mouth and the throat including the tongue and tonsils, resulting in oropharyngeal cancer. It's estimated that up to 60% of cancers of this type are caused by HPV though smoking is of course also a major factor. Vaccines provide girls with good protection against cervical cancer (the take up is quite good in Thailand.) It's now common practice for boys also to be vaccinated with presumably the rationale of, among other things, getting protection from oropharyngeal cancer. To be honest I'm not sure about this last point and perhaps someone better qualified could comment.

is that one really bad.

My advice would be that before you play cricket learn about wickets , stumps , bat , ball etc etc otherwise you might get an LBW against you.

Just to make it clearer , there are many many people who have it both here and everywhere but don't even know they have it !!

Very common in Bangkok and very easy to get if you let your guard down. Many more who have it but deny it.

If you are healthy and maintain a decent immune system it is no big deal. Alcoholics or stressed out people can really suffer frequent outbreaks.

of course no one has mentioned the obvious a few posts slated the woman that she should be outed

The fact remains the guy died after indulging in many he was a carrier of infection for say a decade how many women did he possibly infect

it seems a bit one sided this conversation

You can contact:

HPV (and due to that, are at risk of cancer)

Herpes

Gonorrhea

Syphilis

Chlamydia is possible but less likely

HIV transmission is theoretically possible, especially if there are any cuts or cores on the mouth, but in practice rare

I dont recall that in safe sex guidelines  Listerine as a prophylactic

Factors increasing the risk of HIV transmission:
1. A high plasma HIV viral load (VL) in the source – with each log10 increase in plasma HIV RNA the per-act risk of transmission in increased 2.9 fold [95% confidence interval (CI) 2.2- 3.8] (33). This may be particularly relevant during primary HIV infection (20).

2. Breaches in the mucosal barrier such as mouth or genital ulcer disease and anal or vaginal trauma following sexual assault or first intercourse (34, 35).

3. Menstruation or other bleeding – theoretical risk only

4. Sexually transmitted infections in HIV positive individuals not on ART (36, 37) or HIV negative individuals with genital ulcer disease (38).

5. Ejaculation - Among a community cohort of men who have sex with men (MSM) the risk of HIV acquisition per episode of unprotected receptive anal intercourse with and without ejaculation was estimated to be 1.43% (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.48–2.85) and 0.65% (95% CI 0.15– 1.53), respectively (17).

6. Non-circumcision - circumcision has been shown to significantly reduce HIV acquisition among heterosexual men in high prevalence countries (39-42). In 2008 a meta-analysis of observational studies in MSM suggests circumcision has little impact upon HIV acquisition (43). However, since then the risk of HIV acquisition per episode of unprotected insertive anal intercourse in circumcised men was estimated to be 0.11% (95% CI 0.02–0.24) versus
0.62% (95% CI 0.07–1.68) in uncircumcised men in a community cohort of MSM in Australia (17).

7. Discordant HIV viral load in the genital tract - In general, the genital tract viral load is undetectable when the plasma viral load is undetectable. When this is not the case the viral load in the genital tract is usually low (44, 45).

Jeez Id be very surprised if receptive vag intercourse risk was as low as 1:1000. I would have thought a woman receiving normal intercourse not much less risk than recieving anal
