Phuket jet-ski operators warned after Chinese tourists dangerously ‘buzzed’

PHUKET:-- The Phuket Marine Office has issued a warning for all jet-ski rental operators on the island to ensure their jet-skis are operated safely after one operator and his staffer were charged and fined for the unlicensed staffer driving an illegal, unregistered, and hence uninsured, jet-ski dangerously close to tourists swimming at a beach at Koh Khai Nok, east of Phuket.

 

The incident came to public knowledge only after a video of the jet-ski approaching the tourists at speed then circling them several times was posted online. The video, posted last Thursday (Oct 10) subsequently went viral on Thai social media sites.

 

Phang Nga Marine Office Chief Nachapong Pranit told The Phuket News today (Oct 16) that the jet-ski owner, Sompong Hasat, and his staffer riding the jet-ski, Kiattiwat Srinuan, presented themselves at Phang Nga Marine Office yesterday (Oct 15) to be held accountable for their role in the incident.

Lucky that a Thai video has gone viral in Thailand and, hopefully, not a Chinese one in China.

The jet ski renting criminals (there is no other word to qualify), have long made the front warning lines,  in almost every western foreign affairs website to warn their tourist citizens. This mafia apparently regularly gets away with "warnings". The rampant corruption will ultimately doom the tourism industry in Thailand, if the authorities do not clean up the mess for once, for real and fast.

It is their very subtle way of chasing people from what they consider is their patch of beach

 

They will do nothing, not the Police, not the Gov and certainly not the company. The only thing that might help is if Chinese send it viral and the CCP do their tourists no safe in Phuket routine 

 

20 years or so ago Client got smashed into in Phuket by a Thai jetski jerk with another tourist on the back while swimming just as portrayed here being too close to shore. 

 

 Luckily he was insured but needed major back surgery multiple times, the legal case should have been straight forward and slam dunk but nope. 10 years trying to get justice through the Thai courts even with the passengers statement,  other witnesses and Thai drivers admission, later retractment when the Jetski business was cited as co responsible, led to absolutely nothing but a huge legal cost and humiliation. The man never worked again, his business nosedived as a consequence, lost his house then his marriage and eventually a few years ago he committed suicide. He was 35 when it occurred and 53 when he gave up and took his own life. So sad and so unnecessary.  

 

Needless to say I hate jetskis rent businesses and will not go in the water on a beach that has them anywhere in sight, not in LOS not in Europe or any other beach resorts. 

The title of this thread is very disingenuous- the incident took place in Phang Nga but the title infers it was in Phuket.

 

As a result of the incident in Phang Nga local operators in PHUKET were warned as well.

 

It would appear to me that the helmsman was showing off as he had a female on board.

"Under Thai law, a person – including tourists – must have a valid Helmsman Class 2 licence in order to legally operate a jet-ski."

Yeah right!  And you must have a valid Drivers License, in order to rent a Motorbike in Thailand.

These businesses should immediately be closed down.

This is perhaps the 678th warning the hapless army subjects have issued to these reckless clowns. Is a warning and a fine the best the army can do? Really? Are you guys really that weak? We suspected that. But, now absolute proof?

The Phuket jet ski mafia and those they employ don't give a sh!# about anyone or anything except money in their hands. The amount of Baht being made is staggering, and the brown envelopes are passed around to police, local councilors, and anyone else who has the authority to stop it. The "Marine Police" are a joke, and any "warnings" they give are for show only.

Just this morning I watched the goons at Kamala Beach towing their jet skis down the sand one by one, using a motorcycle saleng with no muffler, right in front of beachfront hotels and very near the police station. The noise was deafening and lasting almost half an hour. The local cops and the so-called Marine Police are little more than extortionists. The provide ZERO public safety for beach goers.

Be warned. Any and all jet ski renters on Phuket DO NOT have the proper license, insurance, experience, or common sense to do anything safely, and will trample over any other beach goers in their way. If a tourist complains, they will be run off the beach by thugs.

Phuket's beaches are now nothing more than a true sh!# hole, with raw sewage flowing daily by the tonne into the same ocean water they fleece tourists to play in. ANYONE who still comes to Phuket for the beaches are first-timers, or fools who should know better. Phuket's beaches are a filthy disgrace.

True that. But the army has taken declarations, proclamations, crackdowns and hyperbole to a new level. And it means nothing. Ever. It is all just words. And even if they do engage in enforcement, it lasts two weeks, then all is forgotten. Talk about hapless. They are re-defining the meaning of incompetence.
