Why am I not surprised. I have seen probably the worst examples of building works, road works, new railway, simple things like air conditioning over the last couple of years in thailand. They don't seem to understand construction and implications of not doing things correctly

they understand exactly, get in get out as  fast as  possible and get the money and run...dont worry  about repeat customers

Never buy house or condo built by a Thai unless overseeing it yourself !

More like cheap or lack of materials, virtually no supports in the roof.

Saving money costs lives in construction.... 

I'd take a close look at the architects design and match it to materials or build standard used then proportion blame!

Architects design????, probably drawn up by the builder, and no basic engineering abilities, much less understanding of weights and stress

First move someone has to do is a stress test on a piece from that rubble. Then check the batch loading ticket for the batch time and compare it with the pour time. Life span of Concrete is only 90 minutes. Then it starts to set in redi-mix drum. Next check the quality of the sand. That is of high importance. I looked at the photo and surmised the rebar is too thin for that much weight to support. Also, how much cement powder per batched metre of concrete. 3-4-5/ 50 kg. bags per metre? Also, was a slump test done before pour? These are all critical in an investagation. And yes, I am an expert of cement as I was in the business for many years.

Do any of them have any qualifications or the experience required for these positions?

 

Jail for 20 years for the lot of them and building company owner to pay massive compensation to families of the deceased. Nothing less will do.

I have a set of architects designed specs for a new house in Buriram. 

Surveyor reports. 

Draftsman etc.

They are starting to catch up in the regional areas. 

 

Now the builder says, "ok, we not use ". Too expensive this way...

Nobody checks....

 

Needless to say it's not happening. 

Especially 20 slump concrete and undersized reinforcing steel.

I had that with our first building. Builder cut corners every which way. After 21 years I am surprised it's still standing. And drill holes go through like butter.

 

After that we build ourselves. Built strictly to approved plans. Ordered the best of material. Not so much more cost.

I once had cpac do a  slump test, in the upside down  bucket, rodded to extreme, then pulled it  off and it went down to the floor in a puddle............he  looked up and said "OK"...needles to say I rejected it.

i don’t think that they ever do or did in the past the things what you suggested.

What a stupid statement

i have seen them work my friend sacked 3 builders because of shoddy work before he found someone half decent.this is everywhere in thailand,just unlucky for them it come down early or lucky before someone brought a place and then come down

Sorry for the guys that died, 

My Thai relative bought a 3 bedroom condo in a gated condo community, the

roof leaked for 3 years despite attempted repairs. Even the Thai public get the

same shoddy construction almost everywhere in  Thailand, seems like

corruption  has no bounds.

I am very confused by this story, at first i thought they were erecting a precast wall, but now it looks like a floor slab, if so why were workers under a slab, what am i missing ? apart from a few grey cells.

Seems the precast slab was the roof of the planned gas station office. supposed 6m x 12 m (depend what report you read)  with only four pillars. Seems erected a week ago and now being fitted out by those workers. One story implies that construction ordered stop buy officials as there was concern about the structural support. But the builders ignored the order and carried on working.
