just the last few stubborn sexpats to chase away its game over for thailands naughty nightlife.

Don't the ones in the know just drive a bit away from tourist central? They always used to?

Mr Damrongkiet , unlike TAT PR spokesperson, is speaking from the reality zone. The kind of tourist is changing in Pattaya and the Westerners (he said “Europeans”) are no longer the majority visiting Pattaya. The Western males that use to hit the “night spots” of Sin City are now nearing ( or are) their “golden years” and must be more frugal and find hopping on a 6-14 hour flight less desirable. Now days a “young buck” can meet up with a Thai gal on internet and avoid the “off fees” or drink rip offs. And most tourists now days from developed  countries ( including Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea would find Pattaya’s crumbling infrastructure, scores of polluting tour buses, & unappealing beaches a turn off.

So what kind of tourist is left?  Look around Pattaya and you will find the answer.

btw- legalizing casinos in the resort town could save it.

I was in NhaTrang last weekend and saw many Chinese and hoards of Russians. It almost seems like the Russians own the city now- many work there and I suspect many own businesses

high profile raids by police

and daily low profile raids on all major roads inhibiting traffic flow.  If the mayor is looking for scapegoats he should look in on soi 9; they're coining 12K an hour from road users whilst still preserving their number 2 status of Thailand's most dangerous province.

PS - Pattaya Plod have not caught ONE taxi driver disobeying the law of the land regarding the non-use of meters.

Wow, does this mean I can walk down walking street this year without

banging shoulders with other tourists? Whoopie, Yahoo.. Another good year for

a quiet visit to Pattaya and Jomtien.

here are 40 percent less tourists visiting such venues compared to the same period last year.

They'll just have to double their prices to make up for the shortfall!  None would consider lowering prices to perhaps entice more visitors.

If the bars are empty I’m surprised that the bar girls haven’t tried selling their wares thru Grab?... :coffee1:

hows the non famous bars and nightclubs doing ?

..those are the ones you see boarded up & for sale, along with the owners villa..

Not quite. If numbers are down by 40% you need to increase prices by 67% to get back to the same revenue - 40% of 100 = 60%. Divide the original 100 by 60% and you get ~ 1.67

God that's why i hated maths

The mathematical formula is quite simple. The number of paying Farang customers wishing to come here to spend money on the nightlife scene will be inversely proportional to the number of Indian groups roaming the streets looking for prey. I already know of condo pools where Farangs no longer use their swimming pool due to "Asians" washing their underwear in said pools with a bar of soap, I guess a cleaner substitute for the Ganges. And it,s going to get worse ????

It will have to be renamed skid row

How do you mess up tourism in a whore house I don't know but this masquerading junta have managed it????

Probably more likely the reason for bar customer drop offs.

The tourists changed. There are not so many sex and bar tourists anymore. But Pattaya doesn't seem to get the message and builds more and more bars to increase the red light district. Just recently I walked at this new Tree Town Pattaya area. It was 3 in the morning (closing time is 2 but obviously nobody cares) and pretty much all bars were open but empty. They just created noise. Only difference was the bar "Area 39" with extremely noisy live music and mostly Thai teenagers.

The death knell of Pattaya was promoting it as a family resort; high profile raids by police and army in places such a WS; and the Thai Tourist Authority getting involved.  It is noticeable that petty crime has risen since the army take over.

Perhaps you mean the death knell of Pattaya's bar industry. That's no great loss in the grand scheme. The place has been desperately in need of a makeover. This shouldn't concern expats or sexpats and I wonder why it does. Even if half the bars closed tonight, you'd still have places to go.

Popular Gogo's 5,000 b for one hour of a lousy time with female company.

Add forced pegger drinks.

Still plenty of stupidity paying but seems maybe even the tourists are figuring it out I guess.

Don't figure. High drink prices, strong baht and the IO's welcome matt being pulled out from underneath the come many times a year people is killing the cat. Not like it used to be until the powers that be are changed out.

Pattaya does not build the bars - that's the work of private investors. Don't worry about it too much. If they fail, they close. They lose money, not you. Eventually Pattaya will find a new level as the visitor demographic changes.

Short time with the high Thai baht is not worth it for the average Pattaya punter anymore. Gogo bar girl prices are just silly expensive.

Let the market do what it will do. If people aren't visiting the nightclubs then the clubs will close and the business people will migrate to new opportunities. For those who want to see the "seedy" areas disappear, this may be the time.

When the demand comes back, be it government policy changes or trends of tourism, the business will be back. Seems as we approach the 3rd decade of the 21st century a new cycle is emerging. "If you can't swim you'll sink like a stone for the times they are a changin'."
