Correct, he wants foreigners jailed while Thais can "wai" and get 500 baht fines.... lets have a level playing field!

I understand the shop keepers frustration.

As a small shop.....shop owner he needs to earn 3-4 dollars for every dollar stolen just to break even.

I fully agree, get caught stealing, off you go.

“There shall be no change..........without penalty~!!”

Every merchant and shop owner know how or should know how to factor losses and damages into the item or product price, there are shoplifters all over the world and no one end up in jail, cost of doing business...

BS, all depends how much is stolen all the time, know of enough business who stopped because  they where fed up being robbed blind. At least you could make it in a blame the Thai thing again.

A few rags !  Hey, when the tsunami hit there were Thais robbing the place blind, including the dead......

Yes they were including the police going on to building sites where foreign workers were living in shanty houses and taking anything and everything (from cash to small gold chains they had bought as they had no bank accounts) from the Burmese workers and accusing them of theft

Totally agree, Lock the Mongrels up... along with the Thais who Rip-off foreigners and those who ALLOW/ENCOURAGE Dual Pricing.

Fairness cuts both ways.

Stealing as we all know is wrong. This would be classed in any sane environment as ' petty theft ' Yes, it should be dealt with when the offenders are caught. I think present safeguards in force at the moment are adequate. The offender ends up paying a lot more for the stolen item, he or she or it, compensates the shop owner and the police as usual take their slice!

What does the shopkeeper propose happens to those caught shoplifting his inflated tacky tourist rags? Because by and large, that is all they are.

The tourist should only be charged and go to court for ' having no taste whatsoever and for crimes against fashion '

The tack that is sold at these stalls can be bought for pennies and of better quality in the offenders own country and the goods will at least come up to EU standards or equivalent and have a receipt enabling them to exchange faulty goods, in the hopeful event that they paid for them in the first place!!

These TV clowns and hang them high brigade advocating deportation and court appearances need to be careful what they wish for as foreigners residing in Thailand already face enough xenophobia as it is.

It is nine months since I was in LOS and that is obviously too long, as the first thing I did when I saw this story was to blow up the page to view the "female" foreign shoplifter - has anyone else done this ? She looks like an 18 gallon beer keg sitting on two tree stumps ! Thank goodness for Thai ladies, including the missus who at 48 is still a thousand times more attractive than this petty thief. Even with alcohol being included, I doubt her chances of scoring a date in LOS any time soon. Reminds me of the time a girl in a pub in London, when I rejected her advances said "you are drunk"  - to which I replied, "yes and you are ugly, but tomorrow I'll be sober." Happy New Year all on TV.

What do you look like Aussiepetter? A little curiou

A few questions.

Isn't Koh Phi Phi a national park, so why so much development?

Are all the clothes with brand names licensed?  i.e Lakers shirt

Who's stealing what?

Without looking it up I reckon only Phi Phi Le is the national park, because they don't charge park fees on P P Don. It probably had tourists before National parks were invented, and even that doesn't stop the ruination as anyone been to Samet can testify.

sure but by that logic you could say that about near any place.. in 1974 pattaya was a sleepy beach town with a dusty road and a few bungalows...

Joni also said... all romantics meet the same fate, drunk and cynical and boring someone in some dark cafe

or something like that.. yes i remember the old days but aint no goin back.

Pattaya was never beautiful. P P Don was jaw droppingly gorgeous before the greedies ruined it.

Other once beautiful beaches ruined by greed- Had Rin ( had to be the most beautiful Thai beach before the FMP drew the greedies like flies to <deleted >), Samet- all of it, Chaweng- paradise lost.

Wow, Winston Churchill said exactly the same thing to a Lady MP, now I know where he got it from!

Says the clothes merchant in the knock-off Lakers vest that he probably paid 25 baht for... bet there isn't a legit piece of clothing in his shop. The thief he is complaining about is just lower down the thievery food chain.

Typical Thai bigoted <deleted>, this is.  Throw ALL thieves in jail.  Thais pretend that foreigners are the only thieves.  I seriously doubt that foreigner thieves could possibly hold a candle to Thai thievery.   I wonder how well this shopkeeper would be doing if ALL foreigners simply gave her shop a pass!  No thieves, no customers, no business.

Yeah, no kidding.  Methinks he doth protest too much.  Some irony, one thief complaining about another.  You can be sure that the Lakers shirt is a knockoff and that the license-holder would be incensed at the man's own thievery.

But still imagines she is God's gift to men. It does you good to see one of these whales and remind oneself how fortunate we are to be here.

I suppose this shopkeeper absolutely never charges foreigners more than he would Thais.

No way Jose.

Even if he did it does not justify stealing. I guess Thai haters do need to make up excuses.

Maybe yes maybe no but thieves should be punished not let off with a slap on the wrist. I guess you never been a business owner.

To those who say you have to factor it in as cost of doing business is right, but that still does not make it ok to steal.

Same like people on Thaivisa seem to think its ok te defraud banks and insurance companies. In the end we all pay for it.

Not true, banks and insurance companies will still take as much from us as they can no matter how much or how little we defraud them. They are capitalists of the worst kind.

That is what you think they are just companies and cheating them is as bad as cheating other people. Its just low so people who think its ok to cheat a bank or an insurance company.

I guess you were never taught that stealing is wrong period. If you don't want to do business with a bank or an insurer that is your prerogative but cheating and stealing from them is wrong.

As a business owner myself I hate the mentality that you show, too many people think its ok to steal and cheat businesses.

Winston Churchill's put down for being criticised for being drunk. Quite clever, but not entirely pleasant.
