Why'd the power go out

Featured Replies

I live in a small Thai style guesthouse. Today I was setting up some electronics on cheap shelving when the shelving collapsed. Instantly the power went out. I plugged my fan into my backup battery pack and read a book for 15 minutes when the apartment's power came back on.

Anyone know what happened? My theory is this:

  1. Collapsed shelving yanked a power strip out of an outlet
  2. For some reason this caused a circuit breaker to flip
  3. When the manager or an assistant noticed this 15 minutes later, they flipped it back on.

Unbeknown to you, aliens landed at your guesthouse and needed all the power to recharge their spaceship! It takes approximately 15 minutes for the recharge! ????

the contacts here are abysmal quality,

its flat pegs with no spring load.

in contrast back home its round pegs going into spring loaded

connectors, and it takes great force to push in/pull out a contact.

back home i never so a bad contact in 34 years,

here extensions dont last 5 months even,

they literally fall out if not horizontal,

and even if horizontal they just cease to contact and i gotta buy more extension cords,

again

Did any wires pull out of the equipment?  If so, probable short.

The power strip might have yanked a bit but nothing from the outlet appeared affected.

Apart from the very likely aliens theory – it happens often to me, but some aliens don't need full 15 minutes to recharge their vehicle, and sometimes it might be a mothership hanging just over my house and that need a couple of hours to recharge; when that happens by electric bill is also higher than normal so they might pop in between the meter and my house...???? – it could be anything between coincidence, and your own theory...????

You are extremely lucky if you don't experience it up the several times a week, even sometimes daily or higher frequent; however my area might be more attractive to alien tourists than yours...????

That suggests that the outlet is a possible suspect. I suggest turning off the house then taking the outlet out and checking that the wiring and outlet are correctly attached with nothing loose.

Of course it could be ET phoning home.

Back home, Back home, Back home like a stuck record. Do you still remember where it is ?Maybe an extended trip is in order.

As to the OP's power cut, did you ever stop to think that may have been coincidental ?

Here in Maerim, if the wind blows to hard the power goes out. Its 2020 and they still have an infrastructure from the 1890's.
